"Random" sort order for albums

I'm trying to figure out how to sort my root album in a "random" way. It wouldn't really be random, as doing this is pointless if you have multiple pages to navigate through -- i.e. some albums might not ever be displayed. So what I'd like to do is every hour or so shuffle the manual display order of albums. This would allow a changing of the albums on the "home page" of gallery...aka the root album.

I saw a discussion regarding this from a couple of years ago, but haven't seen anything since. A couple of things to get me going would be helpful...such as where is the manual sort order saved? Is this maybe built in and I don't know it?
