I've encountered something really wierd. I'm a new G2.1 user with a fresh installation. Yesterday I installed the checkout 1.14 and checkout-paypal 1.09 modules and it all seemed to work just fine. I can add and remove photos from the cart just like I expect. However when I try to finish by clicking [continue to checkout] nothing happens! The browser refreshes the page, the url "statusId" parameter changes, and I'm still looking at the shopping cart page.

I searched through the forums but found only one post about this[0] and it magicly fixed itself, please redirect me if my search-foo is not up to par!

I then went to check out some other sites to see if I could figure out what I'm doing wrong, and lo and behold, thay aren't working either! Sites I tried and failed to checkout on are:

http://aphotowizard.com/photography/Photography.htm
http://www.sunbeamphotography.com/gallery2/main.php
http://www.messagescan.net/gallery2/main.php

I tried Firefox, Flock, Internet Explorer 6 browsers, all running on WinXPsp2. The only explanation I can come up with is a possible firewall problem(?)

What gives?

messagescan.net is my site - I've just tried it and it's working perfectly.

When you added photos to the cart, did you then select some products to go with the photos? The default quantity is zero, and if you click on "Continue to checkout" with no products selected in the cart you will be returned to that page. All I did to test was put a "1" in the quantity box for a 6x4 print, then click "Continue..."

Ooooohhh, that's why! It's a usability bug. Two bugs actually.

The first is that when I press the link [add to cart] and also see the text "you have X items in your cart" it makes me think there is something there already. What do I need to do so that [add to cart] uses a default quantity of "1".?

The second bug is that there is no message to inform the user that they can't check out with a quantity of zero.

In regard to your first point there are a couple of threads around where people have changed the default quantity to 1, but you have to consider how this interacts with the fact that there an be more than one product type - which product will the user be adding against the photo they just put in their basket?

The second point is a good one - I've created a feature request here.

in my case there is only one product type so a default of 1 is okay -- and desired. Do you know where those threads are or have a keyword I can use to find them?

For the a multiple product use case there needs to be a note to the user that they need to a) choose a product type, and b) choose a quantity (which defaults to 1 when they make their choice in (a)). After all, I visited 3 different sites and still didn't figure out for myself. ;)
