Complications editing album.tpl, classic theme

In my gallery I have two rows of thumbnails next to each other and then next to those thumbnails the subalbums show up, like this:

[THUMBNAIL] [TITLE, VIEWS, SUBALBUMS] then the next row [THUMBNAIL] [TITLE, VIEWS, SUBALBUMS]
[THUMBNAIL] [TITLE, VIEWS, SUBALBUMS] then the next row [THUMBNAIL] [TITLE, VIEWS, SUBALBUMS]
... and so forth

I want:

[THUMBNAIL] [TITLE, VIEWS] <-- This in a row, in two collums
[SUBALBUMS] <-- This list I want to span the two collums above it, to save space

Now for my problem, I've looked through the album.tpl and it just cannot make enough sense of it to reorganize the cells within the tables for this to work. Could someone that knows this template top-to-bottom help me out, please?
