Not properly importing data from a gallery 1.3 database

I'm in the process of trying to migrate a couple of albums from an old 1.3 (yes that old!) installation into a new 2.1 on another server.

I'm finding that it can do the preparation, without finding a user (the only user on the old site was the admin user), but when I finally click the "Import" button, I get a screen saying "Importing Users" with the bar a full orange, but no continue and it stops right there.
There is no continue link, and the top right hand corner reads "Memory used: 6108944, total: 16M"

I'm happy not to import the old user base, but I would like to import the files with their comments into the new installations. I would feel reasonably confident simply commenting out the Import Users code, but I haven't had time to investigate today.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Thomas

one option is to upgrade to a newer G1 version, then migrate to G2..
