add new item from webpage problem

Hi all,

I'm trying to add items by the URL of a directory, but it keeps saying that the URL is invalid. I search for documentation on this but couldn't find any information as to what's needed to get it to work. My questions is:

- does the directory has to be set up so internet users can browse/list? because when i go to the url it gives me directory listing denied. but if i type in the exact url to an image in that directory, it works fine.
