Hidden Items for Logged In Users

Is there any way to hide items from users that are logged in? Before the advent of the "hidden items" module, imports of hidden items from G1 simply removed all privileges from everyone, thus making the hidden item hidden to all.

If the hidden items feature isn't meant to be used in this way (being unable to hide items from logged in users), then is there some way I can modify the importer to remove view privileges from all users? I've asked this question before, and mindless was kind enough to write up a fix in this thread http://gallery.menalto.com/node/34649 Unfortunately, that behaviour is no longer in the latest version, nor in the nightly build.
