Hi. I downloaded and installed the theme, 'Carbon' into my Gallery2 installation. When I try to activate via SiteAdmin, I get the following error response:

Gallery2 theme by mincel.com
Incompatible theme!
Core API Required: 7.0 (available: 6.8)

I am running Gallery v2.0.2. Is there a special procedure to upgrade this Core API of which they talk about? Keep in mind I am not a programmer, but also, I am not completely illiterate on technology either.

As for the installation of Gallery2 itself, I used Cpanel made avaialable through Fantastico at my hosting service (hostgator.com). That auto-installation installed v2.0.2 by default. If I wish to update this base installation of Gallery v2.0.2 to the latest version of Gallery2 (v2.1.1 I believe), how is this accomplished? Can I simply download v2.1.1 zip, unpack, and FTP the files and folders to the exact same location on my site, overwriting the existing installation? Or, is it not that simple??

You have two ways to go about fixing this.
Try a different version of the theme: http://www.mincel.com/carbon/ it seems there is a older verion as well.

upgrade your G2. you are right in that you can like you say just "simply download v2.1.1 zip, unpack, and FTP the files and folders to the exact same location on my site, overwriting the existing installation". Then when you go to your gallery you will be prompted to upgrade. Pay special attention to the file integrity section of the upgrade.

Have your host unpack the files if you can, as FTP will take a LONG time.

Good luck

Dave

Great! Thanks much for the quick response. Well, since I just posted the message, I did download the Gallery v2.1-to-2.1.1a upgrade. Upon unzipping that, I noticed a lot of additional zips within the zip. I unzipped those each to a separate folder. I further noticed there was one for 'core'. So, deducative reasoning told me to, copy those files/folders to the same location in my installation. I did that. Then, as you mention, I did get an automatic prompt to upgrade my G2. Well, I have two installations of gallery2 at two different websites. At one site this upgrade was completed, and successfully, (knock on wood (^J^)). But, at the 2nd site, doing exactly the same procedure, I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: relativerequireonce() in /home/jsuppan/public_html/gallery/init.inc on line 47

Which seems to have bellied my installation there. Per the error message though, it seems like a minor problem which might be fixable per the Fatal error on this line 47 of init.inc. You know any thing about that?

Also,

Any way to determine: if (1) I can do this, and if so (2) how? The hosting service at which I am experiencing my difficulties is: www.hostgator.com. They deploy Cpanel for their automated installations of Gallery2 and a host of other featuers via Fantastico. BTW, the other hosting service I is www.dreamhost.com. They also sponsore Gallery2 support and further, offer a very good package too, and I in turn as a member. (for details, see bottom of my personal site: www.suppan.net)

most likley some missing files from your upgrade try init.inc again as well as all the other files.
Failing that do a full install over the exsisting files. make sure you pay attention to the file integrity section of the upgrade.

tokyojerry: You have 2.0.2 installed, so the Gallery v2.1-to-2.1.1a upgrader won't work (notice that it expects you to have 2.1 installed). Your best bet is to download the full 2.1.1 package and just unpack it on top of what you already have, as described here: http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:Download#Upgrades

Greetings Bharat:

I did exactly as you stated. I downloaded the 2.1.1 package, did a complete overwrite of the existing v2.0.2 installation (as currently sponsored by the Cpanel folks) at the installed location on my site with the v2.1 content, and voila! God appeared! I was provided with the Gallery upgrade screen. So, now that I am at v2.1, I presume I can safely proceed with the v2.1 to v2.1.1a upgrader.

Really, thanks much for the diligent and conscientious support and help. No, I am not a philosopher. It's just that I am brand new to all this PHP & open sourced stuff, and not a programmer in the least. But, people with the wisdom and the know how like yourself are the sensei's or the senpai's as they would define it in Japanese. It would be akin to: master versus the apprentice (or, as George Lucas would have it... Yoda versus Luke Skywalker. Feel the force. (I presume you've seen Star Wars))

Thanks again.
