Error in Gallery Configuration step 4

Hi there im using gallery v1 on a php enabled server,
the config goes quite smooth until step 4 where i get the error message:

Error: Directory http://plot.bek.no/~marieke/gallery/albums/ does not exist. Please create it.
Error: Directory http://plot.bek.no/~marieke/gallery/tmp/ does not exist. Please create it.

However: the folders ARE there, named right and i´ve chmodded the folders to 777. I checked the urls in the config menu and also tried to refresh all files via FTP. Also i tried to do the config again from scratch, in another browser and got stuck at this point again.

Any clue´s? thank you!
