excited about gallery and Internet but disapointed by Hosting provider

For 3 months I have been involved with my new adventure of Internet WebSites. In my Internet Travels I have found no other Website as responsive and remarkable as Gallery Forum. The best I can find is right here. The Gallery 2 is solid and so is the support behind it. However, I signed up with the wrong host provider. IX WEB Hosting, outside of my own learning curve, they have created problem after problem with respect to the chmodes and the interface used for changing permissions. It pains me that 3 months of night and day hard work love and effort that went into to gallery installs all for not and lost. I deleted two web site because they could not be made secure by IX WEB Hosting, but they also lost functionality because of chmodes. For some reason, the interface often would not let me change permissions. I got to the point were Gallery was crippled and could not even accept a simple deletion of a photo, much less allow a new user. Simple problem to resolve right? Wait just a minute. What if you change permissions and the client application provided by the Hosting Provider just will not respond. How about if you use an ftp and the client ftp shows one set of permissions for a file or folder and the client applications provided by the Hosting Provider show another, and if you change it with the ftp the whole web site looses all it's permissions on every single folder and file within. Happened to me twice. I guess the reason I am writing this here is 1. There is no other place I have found to turn to. 2. I just wonder if "Hosting Provider" is a bad word? Is there Hosting providers that are effective for business? Is the Internet just not developed enough for solid relability with a Hosting Provider. Am I doomed with all my hard work and effort because I cannot afford my own server? Thank for the read --------signed, lost!
