Hi Bharat and all,

As a photographer I make use of the ITPC header fields attached to image files (covering copyright, caption, keywords etc). Will Gallery 2 be able to use these fields or should that be a request for the future?
I note that there are a few hacks in 1.3.3 for incorporating exif data , how are EXIF and ITPC related, anybody can clear this up for me? Certainly the ability to incorporate stuff from the ITPC fields would be a godsend for my workflow...

In G2 we'll be able to easily write a module to extract the IPTC and EXIF data and make it available for you to view when you look at an item. I can't provide more details about IPTC because I don't know much about it (though I know that we have tools to extract it and that's the important bit).

For those who are unfamiliar with it, IPTC stands for the International Press Telecommunications Council. This is the information standard developed by the Newspaper Association of America (NAA) and the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) to identify transmitted text and images. This standard includes entries for captions, keywords, categories, credits, and origins.
The caption and keyword entries can also be updated and viewed by many other third-party image browsers and editors including Adobe Photoshop.
More information can be found at www.iptc.org

This is good news, Bharat! It would appear that it should be possible to adopt a similar arrangement to that possible currently in 1.3.3 to use the EXIF field for the caption, then.
Roll on Gallery 2 RC!

Bharat is so patient.

If you'd done a search for IPTC, you'd have found a previous announcement about IPTC and G2.

But more importantly, you'd have found a patch so you can start using IPTC data in your current gallery.

Well, Jane, thanks for the mordant wit, but I did a search on IPTC using the search facility above and came up with nothing. Surprising because your very helpful reference provided an answer to 1.3.3, which may be useful in an approach in Gallery 2.

In any event, I am grateful for your tolerance,

Tony

Sorry to offend you, Toni. I'll avoid it happening again by not responding to your questions.
