i thought: wow this is a helpfull plugin! But alas, it not bulkmanage, only bulkstrip...
Is it easy to add something like bulkedit? I'd like to add a lot of the same keywords (and descriptions and summaries) to all the pictures in an album.

The idea is great though :-)

That's what I thought too. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but I don't know what I'm missing.

Unfortunately that's it for the moment ... The way the code is written, it's very extensible, but I simply haven't had the time to add any new features. If you want to check the source out from SVN, it should be fairly simple for anyone with basic PHP knowledge.

I do plan to add some more features when I get more time!

Perhaps I am missing the point of this plugin, but batch renaming would be awesome. With batchadding of files, sometimes the longer filenames throw the album alignment out of sync, and witha rename utility, it would be easy to manipulate. This utility, or at least I cannot figure it out, does not rename the displayed name of the file.. In fact, I am not sure what it does, since I actually see nothing changed. Even After clearing out my cache. So in a sense, there is no renaming except for the actual files that were upload.. That seems pretty pointless to me.. unless it changes the displayed file name at the same time..

I concur;)

Batch renaming and titling could be deadhandy
If I am uploading 100 pics and do not fancy editing 100 images seperately it would be handy to give them all the same title.
DSC* or IMG* looks a bit stupdid
In my case titles like Lobster / Brian / Pike would cover a wide variety iof DSC names. Specifying the title with Taste / age /size addition can still be done later.

Any one managed to ammend the plugin yet?

Hi Aidenlister,

I've just come across bulk rescan and you've saved me a huge amount of time and effort. I was looking to resize and rescan around 24,000 images!!

Thanks for a very useful tool,

Richard

Anyone Anyone at all, Aidanlister does not seem to be active on this fporum anymore
Who sees an option in either modifying the plugin to bulkupdate titles / discriptions / keywords
Or give me directions on how to do this.

Is there any such functionality intended in the next release...cause it still seems deadhandy to me.

I would like to see a way to bulk edit the permissions. I have just completed a migration of a gallery that contains over 7800 photos. They are hosted of different groups and some albums are only viewable by certain users, however i have just discovered some of the items that are contained in that private album are viewable by all.

As a side note, thank goodness I listed to permissions advise and assigned groups. User level permissions would be a pain in the tail to maintain, considering how large my gallery has grown.

I would like to see a way to "reset" the permissions of items within an album (including sub albums & their items) based on the permissions of that album.

I think it would also be very helpful if you could bulk select items (perhaps in a similar way to delete/move) when you are editing permissions.

Thanks for creating a great new Plugin, and please.. continue to improve it, I know I appreciate your work.

Hope everyone had a good thanksgiving.

Make sure you have the view item and view resized and view all permissions correctly on the main album/folder/holder
This should be automatically.

As well I found out that if registered users has more rights than a specific registered user this overerides the userspecific settings.

I know, I found ouyt there was an update ...but the much requested updating of keywords and titles is still not possible.
I would really love a plugin with this functionality, I am getting at the stage where I would considder buying a plugin or paying for a album sytem that offers this functionality.

If I upload 100 pics in a go which have a great deal in common I want to be able to straigh away add in the common keywords, and fine tune manually later.

Its just not userfriendly to do them by hand.

And there has been a lot of asking for this

I agree with desiredbard. I REALLY need to clean up the tags on my site -- I have a ton of geotagging tags that were written into the EXIF headers of my files before I knew much about EXIF and before I started using the tags module. Now, I have a freaking mess, and have to spend way to long to fix things.

Every time I add a new album I either have to 1 by 1 apply the EXIF tags. Alternatively, I can use the site admin "Copy my Keywords into the tags" and then 1 by 1 go in and delete the 100+ tags I don't want...

Please help!

Hmmm... I installed it... I see it .... Not sure how to use it.
I have files named 01zoo.jpg 02airports.jpg
After I imported them the file names became titles
I want to trim the first two characters of each title.
How do I do that?

aidanlister:
I have a question. I noticed that in DP that the version of BulkManage is 0.1.0 yet your zip file at the beginning post is 0.2.0. Is this an update and has not made it to DP?

Second I've used the DP version for the first time on an album which seemed to have lost it's link to the image file. It indicated that it rescaned the files, but now when I click on the album I get a 500 server error. Anything that you can think of that BulkManage may have done to the album that would not cause it to have broken the link to it?

Thanks,
Morton

Ok, I have solved my second issue. The 500 server error. It seems that the host changed file permissions on the data file to 775. This caused all of my problems with the thumbnails not showing on the new upload photo files.

Still am concerned that the BulkManage versions may not be the same.

Cheers,
Morton

I just stumbled across this plugin whilst looking for a way of re-reading EXIF and IPTC data from photos.

It didn't quote do what I want with the rescan option so I have made some changes and you can choose whether to regenerate the resizes or not, also it offers each item to all modules registered for post processing (handleRequestAfterAdd). In my case, this offered the item to the EXIF/IPTC module and had the desired effect of rereading the EXIF and IPTC tags into title/summary/description (according to the EXIF module configuration). It's the same feature as was asked for a while ago in this thread so hopefully it's of use to someone.

My changes are attached, unzip them over the top of the existing bulkmanage directory and have a play!

Note: I did have to rearrange the item locking mechanism slightly in order to make this work. It's probably OK if you don't have loads of other edits going on in the same album(s) at the same time, but I'm in no way an experienced gallery developer so wouldn't like to say for certain. It works very nicely for me. YMMV.

ajuniper, thanks very much for posting your changes. You say:

Quote:
you can choose whether to regenerate the resizes or not

But on the UI, I only see "Don't delete resizes". Is that the same thing?

Also, I like the option where the item is offered to all the modules, that seems to be working great for me.

Can we please get these changes incorporated into the bulkmanage module source tree?

Thanks

Yes, sorry, what I said was a little confusing.

Prior to my changes, the bulk rescan would just delete the resizes and they then get generated again next time they are needed. So my "Don't delete resizes" option simply tells it not to delete them.

So I guess that I should have said that you can choose whether to keep the resizes or not. :-)

Glad you like it.

I love the idea of rescanning the images for some of the post-processing tasks. For me, the most important is rescanning the EXIF/IPTC data for title, keywords, description, dates. A critical part missing from core Gallery if you ask me. I have people editing the metadata for albums of images (using GeoSetter, Xnview) and I have to get that info back into Gallery.

However, I can't get the new changes to work. I go to my album of interest and click Bulk Manage. I see the new options (Don't delete resizes, offer items to modules...) but when I rescan, the IPTC data does not get imported. No error messages that I can see. I'm sure the IPTC data is there... I can see them in the summary/details view of the images.

Any ideas of something I can try? Thanks.

I hope the thread aint dead yet.
Sti9ll waiting for a plugin that will allow me to add a keyword and description to all items in one album.

I occasionally upload 40 50 pictures at a time and cant always be arsed of manually adding keywords especially since the series would be one event.

For example photo's from a dive.

Location, depth, would be general info i would like in there. That I later updatye the individual items with Prawn another praw, some kind of fishy and some other kind of bigger fishy is another point.

Just getting the basic info on old albums as well: 600 wedding photo's , Me the missus, the locations (Church and Reception) date are all common denominators. Which guests also feature ior waht particular action uis taking place can be added later

Regards
BAs
