I'm moving server and at the same time trying to upgrade my Gallery software as my new host kindly had Gallery2 ready to auto-install on my new server, but unfortunately i'm hitting my head with the following problem.
I downloaded my albums directory from the old site\machine and then uploaded it to the new site machine (with its fresh install of Gallery2) and called this directory 'GalleryOld'. However when i run the import option in Gallery 2 it says 'The path that you entered is invalid.'.
I know for a fact that the path isn't as i've checked and double checked, what i think the problem is, is that my 'Gallery Old' albums directory is missing the 'albumdb.dat' & 'albumdb.dat.bak' files. But i cannot, what ever i try get these files off my old machine the reason being it looks like they are owned by apache
Tonight i tried the backup_albums.php script on my Gallery1 installation in the hope that, that may bring those files down, but that script would not work because of an open basedir problem.
Somebody must have come across this problem before, how can i get around it?
TIA

you need those albumdb.dat files and other .dat files.
please see:

if you're ready to lose comments, users, ..., there's another option:

Thanks for your reply.
However I have already been through your first link as it's stickied at the top of this forum and your second link is only applicable to Gallery 2 installs.
Anymore ideas?

no, the second link is not just applicable to restoring from g2 installations.
it won't work as flawlessly for g2 album/ dirs, but it will do the job (add item from server method).
anyway, ask your webhost to get your complete album/ folder from g1, including albums.dat. it shouldn't be very difficult. and once you have it, you can complete the normal g1->g2 import process.
