GNUmakefile Command syntax error

Hi all,
I am just started with gallery2 and adding a new field to User register module. I have altered the GalleryPendingUser.class with corresponding @g2 tags, then i started to make the GNUmakefile using Cygwin and Borland 5.5, but i get a error as follows......

$ make -f GNUmakefile
MAKE Version 5.2 Copyright (c) 1987, 2000 Borland
Error GNUmakefile 1: Command syntax error
*** 1 errors during make ***

Could anyone help me by indicating what is the mistake am making???


Gallery version: Gallery 2.1
PHP version : 5.1.4
Webserver : Apache 2.0.53
Database : MySql 5.0
Operating system: Windows
