This question must have been asked a 1000 times, but havn't found an answer...

Having managed to install and begin to configure Gallery2 - it seems the only way to upload/manage multiple images/folders is to use Gallery Remote (GR1.5.1-b25 on my desktop and runs), but needs ImageMagic to function correctly.

I've downloaded ImageMagic (ImageMagick-universal-apple-darwin8.8.0.tar.gz expanded to folder ImageMagick-6.3.0) on desktop, but have no idea how to access/install from the Terminal and can't find instructions that are intelligable to innocent non unix bystanders!?

this page:
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binary-releases.php#unix
says

Quote:
For other systems, create (or choose) a directory to install the package into and change to that directory, for example:
cd $HOME

Next, extract the contents of the package. For example:
gzip -dc ImageMagick.tar.gz • tar -xf -

etc.

I started typing out in Terminal, but it didn't get me anywhere...

Can anyone point us to more detailed (read idiot proof) instructions or a more user friendly solution?
Thank you.

GR user guide also says:

Quote:
4.1.2. Mac OS X
The Mac package includes jpegtran, but it does not include ImageMagick, so you need to download ImageMagick from Apple and install it.

but the link to the file at http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/#imagemagick (imagemagick-6.1.7.pkg.tar.gz (for Mac OS X 10.3 / Panther)) does not unstuff into a functional package. I am running OS 10.4.8, but can not find any other link that's working for me.

The GR guide also says:

Quote:
On other platforms, you should install IM separately (http://www.imagemagick.org) and tell GR by renaming the im.properties.preinstalled to im.properties and set the imConvertPath to the exact path to the Convert executable in your ImageMagick installation.

What on Earth might that mean??

Try the link again http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/#imagemagick I have a mac with 10.4.8 and just downloaded that installer. I ran the installer and Gallery Remote works fine now.

Thanks - tried that one, but got an "Open Failed" message when trying to open the install package on my desktop!?

I came to understand that imagemagick needs to be installed and run on the remote web server to faccilitate use of Gallery Remote on my desktop and gave up as that would have required moving my site to a different server.

Is that true or are you actually running it straight from your mac!?
