Hi,
This is my first post here. I have been frequenting your site since September, waiting for the release of Gallery 2.2. When is that expected to happen?

I could not find any updated information in the forum regarding this.

It will be released when it is ready, but we hope this is soon. The development team feels that the first Release Candidate for 2.2 will be out within a few weeks.

You can try a nightly snapshot if you want to test/use the latest features :)

Does gallery 2 have an engineering release schedule? Is there an actual expected feature list for upcoming versions? I love this system, and think that its developers are doing a great job, it would just be nice to have some schedule estimates. :-)

Thanks again for a great system and keep up the great work.

http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:2.2_Release_Blockers is the list of what needs to get done before releases can go out, but it'll be ready when it's ready!

Sorry, but I'm still very new to the process.
Will the update be in the form of a patch or will I have to reinstall everything?

I'm planning to install a gallery soon; if I have to go through a lengthy upgrade process in a few weeks, I might as well wait until the version 2.2 is released. On the other hand, if the upgrade can be done through a patch, I'll go ahead and install version 2.1

Thanks

Hi,
I've been quite concerned about reducing disk space in my installation because I only have 50 MB available to me at the moment. I've read in the Roadmap that the minimal install will be < 1 MB. I'm wondering how this is possible. In my installation, I've got rid of all modules I don't need and deleted all the po, locale and test folders, and my gallery folder is 4.7 MB.
In fact, I just got curious and made a temporary copy of the folder, removing all non-core modules too, and I got it down to 3.39 MB. Now that's looking quite close to the 1 MB target, but if you think about it, reaching that target still requires getting rid of over 2/3 of it.

It's a goal for 2.2, that doesn't mean we will for sure pull it off. We're trying to, and whatever size the minimal install is when we package it up will be the size it ends up being. We're trying to make it as small as we can.

Also, file sizes of folders will vary depending on your filesystem. The 1MB size might be total bytes for all filess, but it may show up as more on your FS.

When 2.2 comes out I'll be very interested in the MSSQL support. I plan to migrate my MYSQL 2.1 db to MSSQL 2.2. I realize I'll probably be one of the few doing this and might have a long and painful migration ahead of me. I love your software and can't wait to try 2.2 when it comes out.

Over the xmas holidays I might have some free time to QA a nightly snapshot for you. :)

That's interesting for us developers to get some feedback / coverage for MSSQL, but as a user i'd never do that at this point.
I doubt MSSQL/G2 performs anywhere near G2/MySQL and since there haven't been that many MSSQL/G2 users, the stability of MySQL/G2 can be expected to be much better.

But you're doing it for QA, so that's excellent. :)

So we're thankful for any MSSQL users / testers, but be aware that G2 + MySQL/PostgreSQL are in use by thousands of users and thus clearly the most tested / stable / reliable solutions right now or in G2.2.

When 2.2 is released I will be interested to try it out before upgrading the whole gallery, cos I now have several others relying on albums.

I do have other domains.
I think so far I have one MYSQL whatever-it-is thingy on the host. If I put Gallery 2.2 on a second domain, would I need to get a second MYSQL thingy?

The first release candidate for G2.2 is finally out.. give it a whirl and post in the feedback topic!

gaynormcc- multiple G2 installs can share a single mysql database.. just make sure to give each one a different "table prefix" when installing.

Thanks Mindless.
Shall I recognise the "table prefix" during the process?
(My son did the last one for me as he had to add the MYSQL.)

Yes, you'll see table prefix on the database setup step of the installer. The default value is "g2_".

Thanks Mindless.
This is where I get all timid, like standing on the edge of the swimming place scared that the water will be too deep.

I guess in all these things I can "swim back to shore" by shutting out the window, and start again or call for a coach.

I really don't know why I get this timid.

I'll try it - when I get the courage, and then wonder what my fuss was all about. :)
