This is a GREAT plugin and may just keep me using Gallery instead of finding another way to link my Flickr photos to Gallery. Here is the problem I am having though...
I love the interface of Gallery. However, the biggest problem I have is the space the "high resolution" photos I put on Flickr take up. Is there any way this plugin can import a specific size instead of the largest of your Flickr photos? For example, I normally only put up about a 800 by 600 photo for Gallery to reduce the size it takes for me to host the file.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Great idea for a module, but I've got a couple of issues on my Gallery.
I'm using the latest Gallery 2.2.3 with the mgallery2 postnuke module to embed Gallery. This means that Gallery doesn't have a Users page for configuring Gallery2Flickr (.9).
I've installed and activated the Gallery2Flickr module but have no access to using it.
I don't even want to export to Flickr at this time, all I'm trying to do is import a Flickr set into a Gallery Album. This is not my own Flickr set, but a collection of event photos I have permission to include in my Gallery.
Has anyone used this with mgallery2 or have suggestions to get the import to work, even without the export capabilities.
I could be wrong but with me integrating Wordpress into my Gallery, I have the same problem with the Gallery2Flickr module. What I did to get around it is go directly to my Gallery installation location, log in there, and then do what I needed to with the Gallery2Flickr module.
However, as I mentioned above, importing 3 to 5 meg photos is not going to work for me. I want Flickr because I can safely archive photos for $25 a year. But I prefer the interface of Gallery. Surely someone has thought of a way to import photos at only a specific resolution and can link back to Flickr for full resolution?
Anyone?

when trying to import from flickr, it says "successfully imported the image" however, the photo links are broken / not working? Gallery 223, gallery2flickr 090
Hello, i have succesfully installed your plugin on my g2 installation (www.momentodada.com) and it works fine, nice job you done guy, tnx!!
My idea is to export periodically all albums/photos on my gallery vs my flickr account, is there a way to do that?
tnx again

Hi,
This is a really useful module, thanks! I particularly value the way it imports all the metadata too- this saves me loads of extra work.
One question: When it imports an image into an album, and I have Watermarks turned on by default, the images are not watermarked. If I upload by other means, eg by using Gallery remote, they are.
Is there an easy way you can invoke the watermarking function when it is importing to Gallery2 from Flickr? Not knowing anything about the processes, I would have assumed this was done at the same time as the resizing operations but it may need something extra.
It this module still working for ppl? When I try to import the pictures everything's fine and it says they've been Successfully imported, but when I go out to view them all I see is a flickr image which reads
"This photo is currently unavalible" - This happens whenever I try to import a picture be it via search, sets or anything at all :/ The funniest thing is that it works when I try some flickr users, but doesn't work with others :S - It shows the previews all fine - No problem there, only happens when u try to view them afterwards.
I've been trying to go over the code, but can't seem to find the flaw. Does anyone have any idea's? And is it still working on ur end?

petri, it seems there isn't a resolution at this time (for me at least).
I just tried Chris FR's hack to get 1024x768 images out, but it only resulted in me extracting a few of the full (147) images i have in flikr.

In regards to the "This Photo is currently unavailable" issue, Chris FR's solution was so close...it was just missing an important distinction.
Free Flickr accounts (as in, not Pro) allow you to only have access to the small formats of your pics. So using Chris FR's code change, simply change 'large' to 'small'. I was experiencing the same trouble and this solved it.

I was also wondering about the watermarks in gallery2flickr
would it be possible to update the plugin so that watermarks will be maintained in the transfer to flickr?

Hello,
When i want to generate link I get the error: Flickr does not provide a frob!
Can someone help me please?
- Allow export of derivatives (watermark etc.)
- Fixed export of sets
- Download the largest available size (Fixes non-Pro account problems)
- Allow syncing already downloaded sets
I hope that everything works. The way the export now works (including watermarks etc.) is still somewhat experimental. SO if this breaks for you, you should probably revert back to 0.9.0 and post a short note.

Since this seemed to be a popular demand I implemented it in 0.9.1.
Rather than fetching the images directly from the storage location they are now downloaded from their view Location, thus including all Gallery specific transformations. Hope this works.

0.9.1 should now retrieve a list of available file sizes and automatically pick the largest one available.
This should fix all non-Pro account issues.
In one of the next versions I might include functionality to select the desired size on import/export.
Gallery 2.2.4 (maybe also versions before that, I don't know...) allows to download packages from module repositories from within the gallery installation. I'd like to be able to allow the users to install it from there. But I searched the wiki and failed to find a hint about how one can upload to the community repository. I probably used the wrong search terms but maybe somebody can give me hint how I can get this module into the community repository.

This originates from the fact that the older code always tried to download the original size. Should be fixed in 0.9.1

You could probably script it but it something I'm not going to include by default. The newer verion now offers an "update" option so that you can sync sets you already downloaded. Maybe that helps.

I admit that I currently have no clue how to fix the module for embedded gallery installations. Maybe somebody else has a hint here? I'm definitely willing to fix it but I don't use an embedded install so it's hard to test.

It is not implemented yet. Maybe I'll do it in one of the next version.
But 0.9.1 now already has a parameter called "size" in the import_image function (file classes/Gallery2Flickr.class.php). This is currently on the default value "Original" and you might try to change it to "Medium".
Great module but buggy -- when I go to export an album to flickr, it sends four images and quits. I suppose I could upload individual photos, but with nearly 3,000 of them, it'd be easier to start from scratch. Anyone know of a workaround? I posted a bug report on sourceforge as well.
I assume the problems originate from the phpFlickr library I'm using. On some errors it simply calls "die()" which will result in a blank screen. At other places Gallery2Flickr has a somewhat problematic way of handling errors.
This has not yet been fixed in 0.9.1 but I intend to clean up the code in the next version.
Any help on this? I will pay money at this point... $50, at least, for a resolution to this. I know it's not much as we all have f/t jobs, but this is frustrating.
During the last half year I actually got several offers to code for money on this module (some were concerning bug fixes, others larger extensions or the same kind of module for another gallery software packages). I am absolutely grateful for these kind of requests since it means that people place more and more value in open source. As somebody actually making a living purely out of open source this is indeed important to me.
The problem with offering paid support for this module is that it is just a toy project of mine. As most of you here probably noted I just pop in about every half year, release an update and vanish again.
I do offer paid PHP development in the groupware area (Kolab and Horde) since I do have a high level of expertise there. I don't have that concerning Gallery and I'd need to get deeper into the software if I'd like to offer something that justifies payment.
And to be honest it is much more relaxed for me if it stays what it is: a toy project of mine.
I've been keen to use this module but I having trouble at the beginning.
When I click to "Generate Link" in the "Flickr Bridge Settings" page, all I get is a blank page.
Any thoughts as to what may be going wrong?
The problem happened 0.9.0 and still at 0.9.1 (I was hopeful)

Hi Christ,
the problems probably originates from the phpFlickr library embedded in gallery2flickr. As mentioned two comments above in a response to markmark, the library simply calls die() at some points. It should instead return an error so that gallery2flickr can tell you what went wrong.
It could also be a PHP error in your case. Do you have a PHP error log somewhere? Do you see any fatal errors in there? If not, try to activate the error log in your php.ini.
Thanks for the tip. I did find a PHP error in one of logs that indicates this module is looking for PEAR.php which is outside the BaseDir scope. I'll try changing the scope and see if things improve.

Indeed, it was the baseDir scope. I needed to add the directories with PEAR and Pear-addons as well /tmp.
I have started an upload of an album with sub-albums of up to 700 pics. IE timesout after a while waiting for the task to complete. However I note that the task is still uploading (I can see the photo count on Flickr continuing to increase). Is there an easy way to have IE wait for the php task to finish for Gallery2Flickr only?

First, great work on the module. I see it's even included as a link from flickr.com itself. Here's the problem I'm having. I have some photos that are huge (3200x2400) and ranging downward in size. The module works like a champ, imports it just fine, but then I get broken links in the album. When I click on it, it loads the image just fine (full size), but it's not showing any thumbnails.
The first step I took was to go into gallery maintenance and clicked "run now" for the build all thumbs/resizes, but that just sits there. Doesn't even attempt to run. Not sure where things are going wrong for me.
Using version 2.2.4 of gallery and gallery2flickr 0.9.1
Anyone else experience this? I'd assume not since nobody else has posted about it. Oh and I have a pro flickr account.
I've tried multiple photos. The only photo it gets is the original. Doesn't get any thumbs or mid-sizes.

@mikeymalone: Gallery2Flickr should only import the original images. It is not concerned with downloading the thumbnails. Gallery itself does create the thumbnails for each image that you add to your albums (either manually or through importers like Gallery2Flickr). So I suspect there is a problem with your Gallery installation. Do you get thumbnails when you add a photo manually?
Thanks for the module. I just installed version 0.9.1 on Gallery 2.2.4. Importing works great, but when I try to export, after clicking on "Export to stream", I get the following error: File '' is not readable
Ideas?
Thanks,
JD

You're right, it was something else going on. my G2 had more than one image handler running, I disabled all but imagemagic and it works like a champ now

@jidd: the error does not sound familiar. Can you provide a few more details? Like on which page you see the error, if it is embedded into gallery HTML or if it is a fatal error and you only see that error on the screen. What is the path on the server you are trying to access? Do you see anything in your PHP or server logs?
I am running version 2.2.4 of gallery and gallery2flickr 0.9.1. I am having problems with the bulk import process. The session times out (just gets stuck on a blank screen). When I look on Flickr only three or four pictures have been transferred and there are duplicate entries. I can get it work when I just transfer one image at a time, but this process is painful to say the least.
The problem occurs on both IE7 and Firefox (Linux and Windows Vista).
I am happy to contribute US$40 to have this issue fixed.

The culprit in these cases is most likely the included phpFlickr library. During my last round of coding on gallery2Flickr I saw that the library just calls die() in some circumstances. This leads to a blank screen and is something a library obviously shouldn't do. It should simply return an error. This remained unfixed in my last version since it was too much effort to correct it but I guess I'll look at this again for the next version (still unscheduled).

As mentioned before I don't offer paid development for this toy project

I got the blank /main.php too on trying to export an album to Flickr. Exporting single pictures work though. And even stranger : I did export a few thousand pictures a month ago with the exact same setup on the same host.
I guess I should pore over debug logs but I found no messages - is there any way to make gallery2flickr or phpFlickr more verbose ?

While I'm at it, here are a few observations from my use of gallery2flickr 0.9.1 :
- During export, exportXXXXXX files are created in the /tmp directory with owner www-data:www-data and they are never deleted. With thousands of pictures exported it filled my /tmp and I had to set up a cron task to clean up periodically.
- It looks like gallery2flickr generates random names instead of using the original file names which would make more sense.
- I may have missed it, but it does not look possible to export the whole gallery from the gallery root ? I suspect I just did not find how to do it as I see no technical reason for such limitation.
- Album thumbnails from Gallery are not taken into account and Flickr uses the first picture in the album as an album thumbnail.
Anyone else noticed those things ?

I just noticed that on launching the whole album export and just before stalling on the blank /main.php a temporary file containing the first picture of the album is created in the temp directory (and left there, one more each time I try again). Not much of a hint, but it shows that something is happening and that the stall is occurring after temporary file creation. Don't know if that can help anyone but there it is...

When you install gallery2 using nukedgallery you can goto the standalone gallery with the following link. http://yourdomain.com/modules/gallery2/main.php Then login and you can use the module. If you have any questions goto http://www.captiveaquatics.net and send me a comment through the comment through the feedback link.

Gunnar,
The application works fairly well for me with small amounts of photos (i.e. < 30 or so). If I try to import a set larger than that, something expires or gets ugly.
I've noticed that in crash to blank page I'm dealing with at about photo 30, I get this error:
[error] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function: settoken() in /home/[priv]/public_html/gallery/modules/Gallery2Flickr/classes/Gallery2Flickr.class.php on line 76
I noticed that FlickrToGalleryHelper has no setToken function, not that I'm at all versed in php, or if this even matters.
I've tried messing with the setToken('') line to set it to NULL or other possible functions and it ends up keeping the process running, but losing its place, going back to the beginning and sending the same photos again. I have to manually stop the process to avoid repeating sending the same photos over and over.
Anyway, outside of manually sending each photo for 4000 photos, I'm hoping you can help out with this one. I noticed in the bug tracking section some similar issues... I also upgraded to the newest version of phpFlickr, though there was no change. In debug mode I'm not getting any particular information as to what's going on either.
Thanks...appreciate any help you can give.

I have a problem in installing this module: I uploaded the unzipped directory via FTP under /modules directory, with many others, such as "archiveupload", "ffmpeg", "imagemagick", "itemadd" and so on (just to be sure we're talking about the same dir).
When I go into the administration panel on "modules" menu, I can't manage to find Gallery2flickr listed anywhere: not into the installed plugins list, nor into the "download other modules" one.
Where did I do wrong?
Hope to read from someone soon: I have 3000+ pics to export to Flickr!
Francesco Minciotti
EDIT: Somehow, by deleting and uploading it via FTP again, I managed to have it listed on the modules page, and then install it.
Now, it seems to work flawlessly.
Maybe, the key is re-uploading again and again... ?

How could I miss the obvious sign in the error.log :
Quote:
[Fri Apr 18 15:35:43 2008] [error] [client 212.85.152.17] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 9186542 bytes) in /usr/share/gallery2/modules/Gallery2Flickr/classes/phpFlickr/PEAR/HTTP/Request.php on line 791, referer: http://gallery.mysite.net/main.php?g2_view=Gallery2Flickr.FlickrExport&g2_itemId=45922
Gallery2Flickr was simply crashing for lack of available memory allocatable to the PHP process...
So I went to /etc/php5/apache/php.ini and changed 'memory_limit = 32M;' to 64M instead of 32.
Problem solved - now Gallery2Flickr works just as advertised... Joy !

Now I got my environment to let Gallery2Flickr work again, I could not refrain from finding something that does not quite work the way I wished it would...
I have found that the way Gallery2Flickr imports IPTC keywords into Flickr is not compatible with the keywords produced by Digikam : Digikam separates keywords using semicolons (";") whereas when the keywords end up on Flickr I find that the spaces (" ") have been interpreted as separators, therefore mangling my keywords.
Yes, something on the gallery is rendered incorrectly, but that is an entirely different problem : http://tinyurl.com/4cf72o
Anyone else having problems with other IPTC keywords separators ?

If I remember correctly, this tends to be a temporary issue from flickr. Did it go away a while later?
Well I'm not Edwin, but I have the same problem. Installed the module yesterday evening, got the message the whole evening and this morning again. I'll keep on trying, you never know, but 12 hrs seems like a long time no?
UPDATE: now a day later, have kept on trying, still no luck...
UPDATE 2: a few days latr it suddenly worked - no changes

I’ve been unable to export any photos or albums to Flickr with gallery2flickr.
Below is the gallery version info. Import from Flickr works fine. It almost feels like export should work or is about to work – G2 even correctly recognizes the sets I have defined on flickr, but nothing actually happens except the photo appears to just reload on the gallery screen. My flickr account is a new account, and it’s a pro account.
Are there any flickr upload permission settings that have to be set for export to work? Any other pointers? Thanks for any info - i would really like to get export to work.

PROBLEM SOLVED. I had my gallery/apache set up to require password authentication. Once this was disabled, gallery2flickr export worked fine.
conclusion: disable password protection and similar authentication on your website in order for gallery2flickr export to work

I am on a shared host and don't know anything about baseDir. I am having the same problems with the generate link showing me a blank page. When I went to check the error log, I saw the same "Failed opening required 'PEAR.php'" that christ mentions but I am unsure as to how to go about fixing this. Help?

OK, I kinda figured out that it is code that I need to add to my php.ini file in my public_html directory, yes? If that is the case, can someone please show me what I need to put in there specifically so I can just c/p it in with my account changes? All I see in that file right now is a bunch of zend references.

I am having the same problem that PapZ reported - I uploaded the zipped file to my modules directory using FTP and decompressed it using WebShell, but when I go to the plugins list in Gallery, it doesn't appear on the list. I tried refreshing the list, deleting and reuploading the file, installing the earlier version - nothing seems to work. (The earlier version, in fact, caused my plugins page to fail to load.)
The download actually looks like a whole lot of folders, and only one file (common.php), like this:
Any ideas? I don't guess I absolutely MUST have this module, but I know I hella want it!!!
Thanks.

Thanks,

I could be wrong but with me integrating Wordpress into my Gallery, I have the same problem with the Gallery2Flickr module. What I did to get around it is go directly to my Gallery installation location, log in there, and then do what I needed to with the Gallery2Flickr module.
However, as I mentioned above, importing 3 to 5 meg photos is not going to work for me. I want Flickr because I can safely archive photos for $25 a year. But I prefer the interface of Gallery. Surely someone has thought of a way to import photos at only a specific resolution and can link back to Flickr for full resolution?
Anyone?

Hello all,
It this module still working for ppl?

Hi,
I just released Gallery2Flickr-0.9.1.
It can be downloaded at
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=199596
Changes:
- Allow export of derivatives (watermark etc.)
- Fixed export of sets
- Download the largest available size (Fixes non-Pro account problems)
- Allow syncing already downloaded sets
I hope that everything works. The way the export now works (including watermarks etc.) is still somewhat experimental. SO if this breaks for you, you should probably revert back to 0.9.0 and post a short note.
Cheers,
Gunnar

Since this seemed to be a popular demand I implemented it in 0.9.1.
Rather than fetching the images directly from the storage location they are now downloaded from their view Location, thus including all Gallery specific transformations. Hope this works.

Gunnar

0.9.1 should now retrieve a list of available file sizes and automatically pick the largest one available.
This should fix all non-Pro account issues.
In one of the next versions I might include functionality to select the desired size on import/export.
Cheers,
Gunnar

Gallery 2.2.4 (maybe also versions before that, I don't know...) allows to download packages from module repositories from within the gallery installation. I'd like to be able to allow the users to install it from there. But I searched the wiki and failed to find a hint about how one can upload to the community repository. I probably used the wrong search terms but maybe somebody can give me hint how I can get this module into the community repository.
Thanks,
Gunnar

Gunnar

I assume the problems originate from the phpFlickr library I'm using. On some errors it simply calls "die()" which will result in a blank screen. At other places Gallery2Flickr has a somewhat problematic way of handling errors.
This has not yet been fixed in 0.9.1 but I intend to clean up the code in the next version.
Cheers,
Gunnar

Hope that's okay
Cheers,
Gunnar

Hi Gunnar,
I've been keen to use this module but I having trouble at the beginning.

Cheers,
Gunnar

Cheers,
Gunnar

Cheers,
Gunnar

Cheers,
Gunnar

I am also using Gallery 2.2.4 with nukedgallery. I was having the same issue with the gallery2flickr module working. I did get it to work. This is what I had to do.

Example : http://tinyurl.com/6qexhy on gallery ends up as http://www.flickr.com/photos/liotier/2423346624/ on Flickr - notice the keywords on both sides.
Yes, something on the gallery is rendered incorrectly, but that is an entirely different problem : http://tinyurl.com/4cf72o
Anyone else having problems with other IPTC keywords separators ?

UPDATE 2: a few days latr it suddenly worked - no changes

I’ve been unable to export any photos or albums to Flickr with gallery2flickr.
Below is the gallery version info. Import from Flickr works fine. It almost feels like export should work or is about to work – G2 even correctly recognizes the sets I have defined on flickr, but nothing actually happens except the photo appears to just reload on the gallery screen. My flickr account is a new account, and it’s a pro account.
Are there any flickr upload permission settings that have to be set for export to work? Any other pointers? Thanks for any info - i would really like to get export to work.

it's under 'your account' -> 'user options',
