Hi All,

I am currently running multiple installations of Gallery on my server. I'm currently moving my site to a new server I'm wondering, what's the opinion on this? Am i better off keeping galleries with 2 different purposes separate or should i have one installation of Gallery and use the albums for that?

Thanks,

Lynn

Well that depends what you want.

Single installation:

  • Saves webspace
  • Requires one database

Two installations:

  • Can have seperate users
  • Can add different modules to each installation
  • Can configure other admin settings, ie performance, seperately

It's also worth noting that the first two points under two installations can be fudged, with permissions and theme modifications, respectively.

I'm sure there are advantages and disadvantages I've missed out, but you get the idea. The answer? If you really need two installations, then use that method. If not, just use one.

Thanks for the input. I think i'll stick with the multiple installations since it seems to make more sense for my uses.

Don't forget you could use one "gallery2" source directory and have a *few* multi-site installs using it (or is that what you do now?).

That isn't how i'm handling it now, but i probably should. Are there disadvantages to doing it this way? If there is a FAQ somewhere that i missed, please don't' hesitatte to send me to it.

Thanks!

There is a FAQ and some Documentation, but I honestly don't remember seeing anything about what you are asking.

It all comes down to your preference really. I suspect that *if* you are solely responsible for managing the gallerys, either a multi-site install or a single install and using the "multi-root" module might work out well.
