Gallery's flv player does not use ffmpeg.
ffmpeg is used to detect the dimensions and create a thumbnail.
without the dimensions gallery defaults to the "download movie" link.
you can set the dimensions manually by going to "edit movie->movie size"
and then the flv player will play the movie.
I'm working on a way to detect the size through the flv's own metadata, but am finding it very inconsistant.

suprsidr, your post refers to "Gallery's flv player" and then says that it doesn't use ffmpeg. Others have mentioned that you don't need ffmpeg to play video. My host does not support ffmpeg except on a dedicated server. I have uploaded a couple of .wmv files and they play using Windows Media Player just fine after I define the size. However, when I upload an .flv file and define the size, Gallery shows the download link and tries to open it with windows Media Player, which fails. How can I get .flv files that have been uploaded to the server to use "Gallery's flv player"?
Thanks for any help you can provide,
Roy

I'm sorry! I should have included that. Here it is: http://roymaul.com/gallery2/
Thanks for the quick response.

Are you sure you set set the dimensions, there is no reason this flv should not play.
the metadata included in the file:
flvUrl = http://www.flashyourweb.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=1397
filesize = 124679
audiocodecid = 2
stereo = false
audiosamplesize = 16
audiosamplerate = 11025
videocodecid = 2
framerate = 8
videodatarate = 0
height = 120
width = 160
duration = 12.695
Although I noticed the naming was fishy:
FLVVideo.FLV instead of FLVVideo.flv

Thanks for looking at this for me. I went back and insured that I had set the size, I had 256x256. I reset to the 120x160 shown in your post, still no play. I renamed the file to FLVVideo.flv, still no play. I played it at your site, played great!
This file has been converted to FLV from WMV using Video Web Wizard. The file size savings resulting from the conversion was significant, WMV was 3.85 Mb and the FLV was 121Kb. I uploaded the Video Web Wizard code to my site (http://roymaul.com/Bear/) and it played just fine. My goal would be to convert all the videos I use on the site to .flv files, in this manner, and play them with an on-site FLV player.
Thanks again,
Roy

Hi
Sorry to interrupt this thread but how one does what you did on your site.
I am trying to figure out how to display online AVI videos but I can't find it !
Thanks

Hello Arnaud,
The site you're referring to is not my Gallery2 site. It's simply a web page on my site which I created using Video Web Wizard. I have been successful in uploading .wmv videos to my Gallery2 site, but not the much smaller .flv videos. If you would like to see my Gallery2 site, go here. I would like to find out how to upload .flv files and have them played by a FLV Player on the Gallery2 site.

I'm sorry, I missed in your post that you're desiring to display AVI videos. I'm not able to say much about that, except that AVI videos are larger than even the WMV videos. They wouldn't help me meet my goal and I haven't pursued that avenue. Sorry!

Is there any chance with a parameter to start flv player in the large mode? I would be very satisfied with this.

I have just uploaded a FLV file to my gallery2 installation. It just won't play. All it shows is a "Download Movie" link; even after I have put in the Movie Size, it won't play.
Is there anything more I need to do?
The movie I am talking about is here

Read through this entire thread.
If you don't have ffmpeg either available on your server or the plugin installed and configured (if it is available on your server), then you'll need to edit the properties of the movie and manually set the dimensions.
If available, Gallery uses ffmpeg to find the dimensions of the movie and grab a frame to use as a thumbnail.
Oh wait, I just clicked on your link. I think I see what might be happening. In order to view movies, you have to give permission for guests (or who ever you want to view the movie) to view all versions (full size images). Because of that, you might want to create a separate album to put movies into and set the permissions appropriately for your install there.

Hi,
I don't think permissions are a problem. Even when I am logged in as the Site Admin, I still see only the Download Movie link.
I tried giving the "View Original Item" permission to "Everbody", still only the link; the video doesn't play.

Read the entire thread and my entire post.
Good, you set permissions correctly. Now guests should see the download link (before guests saw nothing).
Now edit the movie to manually set dimensions on the movie. If you need more information re-read this thread and my previous post.

Hi Nivekiam,
I have already gone to Edit Movie -> Movie Size and put in Width: 480 and Height: 360.
Still doesn't work.

Hi,
Apologies if this is a dumb question, but is there an inherent assumption that I have the flashvideo module installed?
Doesn't Gallery2 support FLV wihtout this module being installed?

Either the movie dimensions are not present or flashvideo module is not installed
my flashvideo module update tries to gleam the dimensions from the video stream itself, no need for ffmpeg.
it also adds some admin options for player color, button visibility and autostart

Oh, I have no idea, suprsidr could probably answer that off the top of his head.
I've only ever loaded 1 single test mp4 into G2 or G3....This should work in G3, as it supports FLV and MP4 out of the box
Thanks suprsidr.
kjholla, I'm uploading your vid into my gallery to see if I can get it done.

suprsidr,
Yes, the flashvideo module is not installed. I did not realize that it was mandatory. Until now all posts I have come across just mention the "Gallery FLV Player"; none of them mentioned the necessity to install the flashvideo module.
I stumbled upon that in another forum discussion and thought I should ask the question.
OK. If I do install the flashvideo module is there a way to reskin the player? Right now it comes up with a black metallic colored player, much like a Mac environment.
Is there a way I can make it a simpler looking player - similar to the look of YouTube?

KH

I've got 1000+ hours building that player.
others have replaced it with Jereon's player or even flow player you'll have to search.

Hello,
I appreciate the effort you have put in suprsidr. It is an amazing module.
I have made some changes to use the flowplayer though since that gives me the look I am after. I actually got the idea of using the flowplayer from the FlashRenderer.class file in the flashvideo module itself. The code just had to be uncommented; I made some further modifications to get what I was lookign for though.
Obviously, I cannot package the flowplayer.swf file with the module. The flowplayer can be downloaded from http://flowplayer.org
