g1->g2 import failed, now g2 gives errors on access. And a 2nd question on importing. (I followed the migration explicitly)

Please fill out the following form and take a look at the linked pages. The more information you supply, the better we can help you.

- You can copy and paste a lot of the required information from "Site Admin" -> "Maintenance" -> "System Information" if your G2 is up and running.

My G2 is currently not working, if you go to the url you will see the errors

G1 URL (optional): http://edamamebeans.com/g1/
G1 version: Gallery v1.5-RC2 (if it helps, I upgraded from 1.3.4 just before doing this, but I verified gallery works before going to g2)
G1 character set: en_au.iso8859-15
PHP memory limit: unknown, i have not specifically set this. If you need this please tell me how to find it

Gallery version 2.1.2

PHP version 4.4.1 apache
Webserver Apache
Database mysql 4.0.16
Activated toolkits (e.g. NetPbm, GD):GD disabled per instructions in the migration faq. I installed the full version of g2 and only disabled that which the gallery migration told me to.

Last time my question went unanswered, I assume due to the fact I didnt have enough information. I have done my best to give you all the information possible. I have two questions related to this.

The first and most obvious, my import failed. there is no continue button and no memory info near the top of the screen. The error says to enable debug mode and try again, but the gallery now doesnt load. (error on homepage)

I did follow the http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:migration implicitly. There were no users listed to import.

problem 2. With the input wizard, I basically accepted the defaults. (except where the guide told me otherwise)

I got a lot of the errors like below (before the total failure)

Title was truncated for item 1977.
Set: Pic of a random `real`Japanese class. yes, just like in America, they spend lots of time looking for interesting things out the
Truncated: window

This trip to japan was a special trip for me, and the reason I started using the gallery. I would like to keep all information. How can I fix this? I'm sure this is the easy one.

I would very much appreciate any help you can give. I am very lucky to be able to be going back to Japan this summer, and I want to have a nice stable place to put my pictures. I do have rather large albums full of pictures and quicktime videos.

update: I was able to get into the gallery and I tried to delete the imported album to try to re-import it. IT once again crashed the database. Errors below. I am going to delete the entire gallery 2 install and start over, please give me any tips you can for successful import. I am going to try to import 1 album at a time.

> my import failed. there is no continue button

if the import fails like that, a php error (please check your webserver's error log) is likely the reason and it might have left your gallery in an inconsistent state.
which might explain the error you get when accessing your gallery or when trying to delete an album.

currently, your g2 is not installed. it shows the install wizard.

did you run the g1 integrity checks before starting the import? see docs -> installation -> migrate from gallery 1.

@truncation:
in the migration wizard, map g1 captions to g2 descriptions. only descriptions can hold really long text in g2.

I was working with someone in the chat last night, he said it seems like everything I am doing is right. The single problem image was opened in photoshop, saved, and re-uploaded just in case, but another file ended up failing.

as per his recomendations, I am going to try 2.2rc2. i went to sleep as it uploaded last night and hope to work on it today.

I figured out the captions->descriptions, and I am also skipping thumbnail creation to save system resources.

thanks for your help, I will let you know how it goes.

usng 2.2RC2 and only netpdm because it said imagemagik was vulnerable, everything else still according to the migration faq.

I am importing album by album, which means first the master ablum then selecting each one below it to be put in the master album. no thumbnail creation, and for the 3 sets of radio buttons I use file name, none and caption.

Which changes the main gllery error to:

I hope some of this helps. I had to turn error logging on on my server, and its going to take 24 hrs to start, so thats not a resource for awhile.

valiant: thanks for the help, I came here to say I am totally out of ideas and as I was loading the browser I got an email notification from you ^^

Unfortunately, that didnt fix it. Not only did I re-log in, but I was gone over an hour after logging out. Still fails on album 12.

I am totally out of ideas, Joe has been helping me a bit on the chat, but this is really bumming me out. I very much want to upgrade to gallery2.

Help appreciated.

yes, it looks to be. Im currently leaving the gallery broken so http://edamamebeans.com/gallery will show you some of the errors. As for the rest I am going to post the page because I can't say I'm much of a program debugger.

your g2 works fine for me. no errors.

the error in your latest post is not the same error you posted earlier. this is not about the session data.
and it doesn't happen when showing normal gallery pages. the above error is from the g1 import wizard.

for storage errors, we need to see the actual mysql error which is only shown in buffered debug mode.
see:
FAQ: How to set/use Gallery in debug mode?

very interesting. the album does now in fact work. however, just after the import fails i cannot get to the gallery at all. I wonder if this has to do with my session expiring or some other process on the server that cleans things up on a regular basis.

I do in fact know how to put gallery into debug mode. what I am unsure on is where the error will appear after that. in the same places I have been pasting from, or a new log file I do not yet know about?

I havent been trying on this for the past couple days because I was just plum out of ideas and more than a bit frustrated. I may not get a chance to do it today but I will try your suggestions.

wow, amazing. on a lark I decided 'hey, since it works lets just try to re-upload.' Normally it was outright broken, so I didnt have the option. Album 12 went just fine. (Of course it is now Album12_0) Maybe it is session data or something similar, but I have waited a few hours before, which is longer than it took me to redo the install and add more pictures...

Anyway, I am thinking of just seeing how it goes from here. Thing is, I want to make sure I have a stable install for the future... any ideas on that?

Btw, as a feature idea, rather than rename the album, would it be possible to give the importer the option to just add non-existant files to the same album?

I am back to the same old errors. I tried clearing the cache, and I am wondering if it will work in a couple days like last time.

In the mean time, I enabled debug mode. However it is all greek to me. I would appreciate some input.

amazing. I got brave and read the errors. seems my mysql user is exceeding the 'max_questions' limit of 50000.

I deleted the db user and recreated it. was then able to successfully import the rest of my data.

I want to verify the integrity of my albums and db as much as possible, any tips on this would be extreemly helpful

there are no good tools to verify the integrity yet.
there's a integrity module in the community repository, but it's very far from being mature.

a good check is deleting the db cache (site admin -> maintenance) and browsing your albums.
and the "build thumbs and resizes" task in site admin maintenance does a lot of db queries and cross checking as well.
