What I meant was, I insert a thumbnail into the editor of my post/page (see attached image).

Which is of course embedding the entire object in the post which is what I want.

I'm not too worried about what it looks like at the moment. I've only just started working with Gallery 2, and I want to just get the display working correctly, so I know I can use these files in future.

Any ideas. As I said, I think i've tried everything sggested above. I haven't edited any code yet. I'm sure I read something about editing the Mozilla Firefox plugins.dat file to accomodate MP4 files, but I searched my C drive and could not find it anywhere
My MP4 files come from a Nokia N82 phone.

Any ideas?

Thanks again. Really appreciate the support

Oh, so you're using G2Image. I have a mod for G2Image to embed movies and audio correctly.

Using gallery's MIME Maintenance module you can add the MP4 extension to the video/x-flv MIME type and the flashvideo will take over handling them.

Thanks Supersidr.

I've been playing with it, and to summarise: I made the changes but I am still having problems with MP4, MP3 and AVI.

I went to MIME Types under "Extra Data", and put in a random file name for the video/x-msvideo default AVI player. Then edited the video/x-flv by adding "AVI" as an extension.
I then did the same for MP4 and MP3 since my camera captchers these formats.

I cleared the cache of my browser and of gallery performance. I even created a new post with the inserted video: http://www.thebreadcrumbtrail.org/archives/554

I'll try and keep it simple for now and ignore the MP3, but that creates another problem. But for now............

In Firefox as you can see, the top video (very short AVI clip) is still looking for a plugin which firefox will not download. I've installed everything I can think of already ie. shockwave, quicktime etc.
In IE, this video plays fine but in what looks like a mini windows media player.

The bottom video is MP4 and only plays the audio, not the video in both Firefox and IE

Incidently, I had this same issue with the WordTube plugin. It would play flv files, but not MP4.

I don't know what else to do. I'm happy to give anyone access to my gallery if it will help

Could it be a permissions issue?

Cheers

James

I'm going to put a post in the main forums aswell to see if anyone has had similar issues.

AVI will not play in flash... never said it would. AVI is not a flash extension AVI is a video/mpeg-1 extension AVI will play in windows media player or quicktime or various linux players depending on the codec used to encode.

Gallery has a separate module for mp3... MP3 Audio Module

Adobe's flash player extension for web browsers can only play mp3, flv, mp4 and m4a.
The Flash Video Module plays flv by default.
If you add the following extensions to gallery admin -> Extra Data -> MIME types they will play in the flash video player
.f4v (the new HD flash video format)
.mp4 (must be in true mpeg layer 4 video format: .H264/AAC)
.m4a (audio only mpeg layer 4 video format)

I have all of those samples playable here.

do I need to put ".mp4" or will "mp4" suffice. I've tried both however, and it makes no difference.

I've changed everything back to the way it was except The Flash Video Module now has mp4 and FLV listed. But as I say, Firefox is still asking for a plugin.

I just ran Movie Inspector in QuickTime for my MP4 video, and it shows:
MPEG-4 Video, 640 x 480, Millions
AAC, Mono, 48000 kHz

Movie FPS: 24.19

THat looks like .H264/AAC to me. I don't know what else to do

You need to make sure mp4 is not assigned to another MIME type so if video/mp4 MIME type exists remove it.
Also you would need to re-upload the video as the renderer is assigned upon upload.

double checked.

I've reuploaded the video, and changed the name to a shorter one i.e. mov.mp4

Just incase. It's made no difference whatsoever. I give up for now

Does anyone have ideas why this is not working, please!

I should double check my videos are infact H.264/AAC. How exactly can I check. I got some data through quicktime on my movies, but it doesn't tell me if it's H.264/AAC

http://www.flashyourweb.com/staticpages/index.php?page=flvTest&flvUrl=http://www.thebreadcrumbtrail.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=83

No video codec at all.
But it is playing thru the flashvideo module:
so.addParam("flashVars","flvUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thebreadcrumbtrail.org%2Fgallery2%2Fmain.php%3Fg2_view%3Dcore.DownloadItem%26g2_itemId%3D83%26g2_serialNumber%3D3&Width=300&Height=200&title=Mov&allowDl=true&thumbUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thebreadcrumbtrail.org%2Fgallery2%2Fmain.php%3Fg2_view%3Dcore.DownloadItem%26g2_itemId%3D85%26g2_serialNumber%3D3&langDownload=Download&langLarge=Large&langNormal=Normal");

see all the & - I think g2image is placing those there, not supposed to be there.
have you tried my mediaBlock?

No I have not, but now I am trying. It would be nice if I could have a one stop shop for all my media.

Just to verify, would it present media both from a Gallery2 thumbnail placed in a post e.g.

http://www.thebreadcrumbtrail.org/archives/541

and the normal Gallery2 library that I have in my gallery? For example, if I clicked on one of the automatically generated thumbnails here:

http://www.thebreadcrumbtrail.org/wp-content/themes/Breadcrumb%20trail/gallery.php?g2_itemId=4880, it will open your player?

If yes, then this is definitely what I need.

I see the code fro MP3 is something like: <?php @readfile('http://www.flashyourweb.com/gallery2/mediaBlock.php?g2_itemId=3735'); ?>

But if I copy and paste this into one of my template files this is permanent. i.e. every post or page that uses that template file will have a media player embeded into it? I only want it to run if I click on one of the thumbnails mentioned above.

So if this is what I need, where do I start? I've uploaded the edited mediablock.php file to my gallery2 folder. Here is the code............

/* Connect to gallery */
function init() {
require_once ('embed.php');
$ret = GalleryEmbed::init(array('fullInit'=>true, 'embedUri'=>'http://www.thebreadcrumbtrail.org/wp-content/themes/Breadcrumb trail/gallery.php', 'g2Uri'=>'http://www.thebreadcrumbtrail.org/gallery2/main.php'));
if ($ret) {
print 'GalleryEmbed::init failed, here is the error message: '.$ret->getAsHtml();
exit;
}
GalleryEmbed::done();
}

What can i do to ensure it A) plays when a thumbnail in a post is clicked
B) plays when thumbnail in my gallery is clicked (my gallery is running using gallery.php which I am attaching to this comment)

And then, where can I use the parameters?

Thanks

James

this has nothing to do with the forum topic.
Start a new thread, or for my products my forums would be more appropriate.
