hey all,
my gallery 2.2.1 install works as far as i can see flawlessly. the only problem i have is that i cannot use "get more plug-ins". every time i try to download the plugin list, it starts scanning my existing plug-ins, then i get "continue..." but after that it returns and says
Quote:
Error downloading index from 'http://gallery.menalto.com/repository/released/index'.
Please make sure that your internet connection is set up properly or try again later.
now, the thing is, i have this server running to experiment with gallery, so it is behind my proxy. but i cannot for the life of me figure out, where i can tell gallery/apache or which ever program actually tries to download the index my proxy settings. wget and apt are working flawlessly.
thanks in advance,
jmk

i just tried it without the proxy (which is definitly not a permanent solution), and that worked. so it seems that it is a problem somewhere, that the "export http_proxy" environment variable is not properly evaluated by gallery.
can anybody confirm this?!

gallery has no proxy settings. it just opens a tcp/http socket connection to the target host.
no idea if one can set proxy settings in the php config, if not, one would have to add proxy settings to gallery.

aha. thanks very much for your reply. it would be really great if there was a way to implement proxy settings in gallery somewhere, since more and more plugins and themes are coming through "get more plugins". i would be more then willing to help (you) test this...

I had this problem and it was caused by my DNS settings on a firewall on an Orange Zone. It's long and complicated but was easily solved by adding in
to /etc/hosts

Hello,
I receive the same message when I try to update my plugin list.
First I tried to download and install a new module (Image Block). I then received the message
So then I tried to update my repository list instead. But this resulted in the message like JMK had as well.
Last week I updated my Gallery by installing URL rewrite. I suspect this can be the source of my current problem, but I have no clue how to solve it. See the output of the test of URL rewrite:
Test the Rewrite Parser Configuration
Apache mod_rewrite
Testing if mod_rewrite is supported by the server.
Success
Gallery .htaccess file
Testing if Gallery can write to the .htaccess file.
Success
Allowoveride All is also configured for my webserver document root. Is there anything I forgot to enable/disable on my Apache server? Or do I have to configure something in my gallery? I'm lost

Hmm, never mind. It had something to do with my ip number. Yesterday the ip number of my local test server changed, so I changed is back to the original one via the LAN properties. The gallery worked again, but appearently my router did not like it. But today rebooted the server and it seems to be working fine again...

Yep. I was going to say the same thing.
