I am in the middle of installing Gallery 1

I am in the middle of installing Gallery 1. I am following the http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery1:Installation_on_a_Unix/Linux_Server_with_FTP guide. I am at the step Install a image processing library. I need some more information about this step. I used netcraft my os is linux and server is apache/2.0.51 (fedora). I would like to download a NETPBM but I am not sure what one to download at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=7130&package_id=14464 Can I have some assistance with this. I am very new to PHP and this. However I would realy like to use gallery and I am using this progect to get a gallery online and lear PHP. I do not have the below information as I do not have my gallery up and running yet.
