Hello! I'm not at all a technical person and I'm just trying to upload my wedding and puppy pictures to my gallery. Like many other folks on this site, I upgraded to Gallery 2.2.1 , downloaded the gallery Remote 1.5.1-b30 and am getting Error: HTTP POST failed (HTTP 500) error message.

I tried to follow the directions at
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery_Remote:FAQ#Connecting_to_a_G2_installation:_Server_contacted.2C_but_Gallery_not_found_at_this_URL

but I'm really out my league here. I found the galleryremote.properties file on my hard drive, but I have never changed or even opened a *.properties file in my life.

Can I just open this file in notepad? Do I just add "forceGalleryVersion.n=2" anywhere in the file and then save the file? And, when it says "n is the number that matches your Gallery URL in the file" what does that mean? Does that means n= a URL or does n= the Gallery version that I'm running? Do I have to do something called compiling? If so, how do I do that?

Any help you can provide in non-technical terms is greatly appreciated!! You can contact me directly at

Yes, you can just open the file in notepad or a HTML-editor like Dreamweaver and edit galleryremote.properties it with it.
(In my Windows XP environment I found the file at
C:\Documents and Settings\ICTinHuis\.GalleryRemote\)

Have you tried to add this to and ever got your setup working, Gallery 2.2.1 together with Gallery Remote 1.5.1-b30 and this extra line?
Can someone else point out if this combination works and/or if the problem mentioned by Beetle can be solved with this?

I use Gallery version 2.3.1 core 1.3.0.1 together with GR 1.5.1-b46 myself, so I can not test or try to simulate it.
If you ever read back your msg and got any results which you can remember, please send back your much appreciated feedback.

If not, I am planning to test it out one of these days, just to see if this works.
