Moving 1000s of Photos but not from Gallery 1

Hi, I would like to move from a simple php/mysql gallery that I wrote some years ago to Gallery 2. Is there an easy way to import thousands of photos, or am I going to have to do them one at a time? I am not sure what all info you need to help me with this question. My former gallery was very simple, was only one album, listed a photo caption, date, and names of people in the photo. |

documentation -> usage -> how to add items -> from local server.
if you need to import from another application with meta-data etc, you'll have to write your own import-script using the Gallery API.

Oh, thank you! One more question. The info says I need the "Item Add" module, and links to a page that describes this mod, but I don't see any info anywhere on where to get it.

it's an official module for g2.2.
it's included in the "full" package and if you don't have it you can install it via site admin -> plugins -> get more plugins.
