Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated on what may appear as an unusual migration from G1 to G2:
- Migration of Photos and their respective structures
- No comments need to be migrated
- No user permissions need to be migrated
- It isn't necessary to maintain the original G1 URL format
- According to the "non-accurate" count, there are over 29,000 Photos in my current G1 gallery
- There is a complete backup if the migration bombs
My server runs dual Woodcrest CPUs, and I allow 800Mb of RAM to PHP (out of 4Gig). My G1 gallery runs with NetPBM, and I won't have a problem with disabling GD if that will help. I also regularly run the "Orphans" and "Validate Albums" features in G1.
The goal is to migrate the existing gallery to G2, and make it an "online museum" of sorts that no one can edit but myself. I've been running it for over five years and want to preserve it as information resource my online community.
Is there anything I should consider?

since you've got a backup, i'd just try it. probably it will just work (and take quite a long time).
