LS,

I've just performed a new installation of Gallery 1.5.6 on my Linux server and all seems working well except the uploading of pictures through the Gallery Remote applet. When the "big" applet is started it pops up with the following message:

Gallery Remote can find no protocol implementation at the URL http://heiduikers.hoeboer.net/gallery/.
Check with a web browser that http://heiduikers.hoeboer.net/gallery/ is a valid Gallery URL.

In the Apache 2 access_log I find the following message:

- - [01/Jul/2007:23:50:42 +0200] "HEAD /gallery/gallery_remote2.php HTTP/1.1" 200 - "-" "RPT-HTTPClient/0.3-3E"
- - [01/Jul/2007:23:50:42 +0200] "GET /gallery/main.php?g2_controller=remote.GalleryRemote&g2_form%5Bcmd%5D=no-op HTTP/1.1" 404 1036 "-" "RPT-HTTPClient/0.3-3E"

and the error_log shows:

[Sun Jul 01 23:50:42 2007] [error] [client 192.168.10.148] script '/srv/www/vhost/heiduikers.hoeboer.net/gallery/main.php' not found or unable to stat

I've read some forum postings concerning this error message but they all are related to Gallery 2. The main.php-file is missing from the gallery directory but so it was in previous (1.4.x) installations. It seems to me something else is wrong but I cann't find it.

I also tried upgrading the applet to version 1.5.1-b16 but that didn't help either.

Anyone an idea? All help will be welcome.

Web browser/version (if applicable): Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.4

Did you install the Remote plugin in your Gallery?

Evo,

I am afraid I do not understand your question. I downloaded the gallery_remote_1.5.1-b19.zip (applet version) from the www.gallery2.hu site and unziped it. I copied the jar-files to the gallery/java directory after backing up the ones that where part of the Gallery 1.5.6 distribution. I have not made any other changes.

After shutting down my browser and restart, I verified the new 1.5.1 applet version by looking in the about box and it was correct.

So, did I mis something? What did I forget to do?

Thanks for your time,

Niek

Sorry, I didn't realize you were using Gallery 1. Why did you decide to use Gallery 1 instead of version 2?

Well, I prefer to have all thing stored on a normal file system instead of in a database. On a database, if one file corrupts all is lost while a file system approach will allow me to repair things. It seems a lot of people are still using Gallery 1, I assume they feel similar about this.

But this would be a different discussion and seems therefore off-topic. Any clue as to what is wrong with my setup?

Hi, all:

I'm ALSO having this same problem.

If I go to http://josiahgluck.com/photos I see an empty gallery; I've got no albums up--yet. I just did an install of Gallery V2.2 via my host, Dreamhost. They do one-click installs.

I also downloaded the new Gallery Remote from the this site (v 1.5.1-b30). When I tell it to go to the above URL, I, too get:

"Gallery Remote can find no protocol implementation at the URL [see above]. Check with a web browser that [URL above] is a valid Gallery URL."

Again -- as far as I know /understand all of this, the above URL IS a valid Gallery URL.
What gives?

Any and all advice / help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JNG

I am receving the same error - i.e. ...
Gallery Remote can find no protocol implementation at the URL 'my url'
Check with a web browser that 'my url' is a valid Gallery URL.
when using the Applet or Big Applet. I am able to use the form (I believe it is called.)

In my case, I have been successfully using the applets for over a year. But all of a sudden it is not working for me.
Photos that I post or have posted in the past operate correctly in terms of viewing.

The following information is required to get an answer:
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).
Gallery URL (optional but very useful):
Gallery version: 1.5-RC3
Apache version: Apache 2.0 Handler
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please): 4.3.11
Graphics Toolkit:
Operating system: Linux 2.6.11-1.14_FC3 SMP
Web browser/version (if applicable):
Thanks, Jim.

I am receiving the same error on 3 of my websites! I host my websites through 'www.Dreamhost.com' and since upgrading to version 2.2 the other month I am getting this error. One example: Gallery Remote can find no protocol implementation at the URL http://www.photos.albanygrove.co.nz/. Check with a web browser that http://www.photos.albanygrove.co.nz/ is a valid Gallery URL.'

In saying that, I have started a new website and installed version 2.2 from scratch (i.e, no upgrade) and all works fine!

Can anyone help? I have looked through numerous postings ... but, there is no simple answer?

Thanks
Claire

Install the Remote plugin. It's not part of the default install, so you'll have to go to the "Get More Plugins" tab. That did it for me.

I also have the same problem with no protocol implementation. I have installed Gallery Remote 1.5 with the gallery-1.6-RC1-svn-b98.zip update and activated the Remote module(installed the remote plugin) on the site. When I tried to install the b30 update, it trashed my Gallery Remote, so had to stick with the RC1 update. I also installed the gallery_remote2.php in the web Gallery root directory. Nothing gets me past this error. Any other ideas? Thanks.

I have my Gallery hosted thro' iPowerweb. Recently they 'upgraded' the platform - great! - including Gallery 2 - really great! - which means I need to use Gallery remote - no problem - it used to work fine...excpet I get this same error. The say it's because they don't allow remote connections to the database. So in effect none of their entire customer base can upload photos to gallery (or do it one by one).

I have installed the Gallery remote add-in on my site and all is up to date, but the issue still remains.

I don't know how to get round it. They have gone blank 'cos they say Gallery is freeware and they install it but don't support it (even though they charge $12 a year for installing Gallery and running it!).

Did anyone resolve this?

Thanks in anticipation!
