Version 1.1 of the Gallery Gadget has been released.
New features include:
+ Added a navigation bar.
+ The next image in the slideshow is now pre-cached allowing for a smoother transition between photos.
+ The slideshow images now use as much real estate within the slideshow frame as possible.
+ Added more options when choosing the length of time that each photo will be displayed.
+ Updated the background frame color picker to ColorJack's new Sphere Color Picker.
+ BEST NEW FEATURE - You can now enlarge the slideshow (up to 800 pixels) when undocking it from the Sidebar. This makes for a really nice slideshow.

You guys are way toooo advance, but I need help on this.
Will your widget solve this problem?
Is there a way to allow users to edit there own posted images?
I could not find the solution in the forum
I need this feature for my wine gallery.
Any help is appreciated.

How do you install this - the download file is a zip and doesn't seem to have an installer (unless I'm being stupid!!)

Unfortunately, this is not possible since the Gallery Gadget only makes use of the Gallery Image Block module (which doesn't offer authentication support).
The download file is a .gadget file (which is essentially a zip file). When you click to download it, you should use the defaul windows.gadget program to open it. It will then ask if you would like to install the gadget. Alternatively, if you do download and save the file, double-clicking it will do the same. Remember, it only works on MS Vista.

Thanks - the download opened and saved via IE7 on my PC as a .zip file, not a .gadget file. Is IE7 doing something here?
No problem though, changing the filename sorted it - thanks.

Yeah, it seems IE7 changes the file from Gallery.Gadget to Gallery.zip. Very sly Mr. Gates...you sneaky, sneaky man.

Version 1.2 of the Gallery Gadget has been released.
New features include:
+ As requested, I've added an Album ID field for selecting a specific gallery album subtree. This should be popluated with the album's g2_itemId (located in the album URL). If you are using the URL Rewrite mod, you will need to get the g2_itemID from the administrator's view of the album URL.

Hi all, ive got a question about this sidebar gadget. Every single day im seeing hundreds of thousands of hits from what I assume is this gadget. It calls itself x-gadget://gallery.html. It seems a few hundred people have set up galleries from my website in their gadget and are asking for new images every few seconds.
Is there someone feeding preconfigured galleries into this gadget including mine, or have hundreds of people simply manually added my website?

Hi, thanx for that great gadget. I installed it a few moments ago, but had some trouble with it:
a) After downloading it, respectively opening it with Windows Sidebar from Firefox 3 it was installed in the \Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gallery.Gadget.~0011
Because of the directoryname with the unusual extension ".~0011" Windows Sidebar didn't make it available. After removing this and b) it worked.
b) Within this directory, there was a directory "en-US" with the html-files of the gadget itself. I am running a MUI-Vista with German language (SP1) and unless changing the name to "de-DE" the gadget wasn't available.
I suggest to make it available for all languages. Simply move all content from "en-US" into the gadget-directory itself. I don't know how to provide a correct language-version for translated content and gracefully degrade, if there's no translated version for the current language.
Another suggestion: Provide two fields for width and height, not only one for width = height. Most of my pictures have the same ratio of 3:2. 2:3-Pictures will be even smaller, well, but that would be the choice of the user then.
Once more: Thanx for that great gadget, keep going ;o)

Great Gadget! Thanks! BTW, methodz might be asking about http authentication. It took me a bit to figure this out (and it is sooo simple a solution). I also password my gallery, but I use apache's .htaccess authentication. So just use the old style, in-line url method:
http(s)://username:password@server/resource.ext
(see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834489 for info)
On another note, I notice that the images are not quite optimized for my sidebar. They are about 80% the size. I'm guessing this is because of my default thumbnail size. Is there a possibility of allowing the user to specify the thumbnail size in the gadget? Possibly in the next version. I think it would have to use g2_exactSize and scale em down.

Album ID is used if you want to restrict the Gallery Gadget to one album only. To get the Album ID simply open up the album in your web browser and look at the address bar. You should see the album id in the address towards the end.
