The following information is required to get an answer:
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).
Gallery URL (optional but very useful):not set up yet
Gallery version:1.5.6
Apache version:unknown
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please):PHP5
Graphics Toolkit:imagemagick
Operating system:WinXP
Web browser/version (if applicable): Firefox

My provider just upgraded to PHP5 and my Gallery installation is now all screwed up. I want to upgrade from version 1.4.x to 1.5.6. Does 1.5.6 work with PHP5 or do I have to go find another photo album app? There are several thousand photos in the old version.

Thanks,

Richard

Hi,

Gallery 1.5.3 and above are fully PHP5 compatible.
Versions before 1.5.x not compatible.

I suggest go with Gallery v2 . Much better with more features. :)

Just being curious. What advantage has a happy G1 user from G2?
Which features are missing? And what is much better?

This is a serious interest/question, so please answer only in a serious way.

I ask, because your advice sounds like a commonplace.

I prefer to stay with G1 if possible because I've made some custom modifications to the PHP code and can easily incorporate those changes into an updated version.

I have tried G2 for another site and find it too complicated to set up. Never did get it working correctly and gave up. Sometimes you can have too many bells and whistles.

Thanks for the replies.
