Allowed memory size

Hi
I know there are 100s topics on this but using 512M of memory when running the maintenance scripts? This can not be right. I have only about 32000 items in total

This is the error I got when I ran all the scripts, all the scripts ran and finished but I can't run the Integrity Check, if I do I get this error. I also got this error on 128M and 256M when I tried to run the Build all thumbnails/resizes 512M is the lowest I could go when running the Build all script.

Here are my system specs

Gallery version = 2.3-svn core 1.2.20 r15605
API = Core 7.34, Module 3.7, Theme 2.6, Embed 1.2
PHP version = 5.2.3 apache2handler
Webserver = Apache/2.2.4 (FreeBSD) mod_ssl/2.2.4 OpenSSL/0.9.7e-p1 DAV/2 PHP/5.2.3 with Suhosin-Patch
Database = mysqli 5.0.45, lock.system=flock
Toolkits = Exif, LinkItemToolkit, Thumbnail, ArchiveUpload, ImageMagick, NetPBM, Gd, SquareThumb
Acceleration = full/1800, none/0
Operating system = FreeBSD  6.2-STABLE FreeBSD 6.2-STABLE #0: Thu Aug 16 22:54:19 CEST 2007 :/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/MYKERN amd64

Any ideas as to why it uses that much memory...
