This is my first time to try and set up a web site. The server is running Apache, I have gallery already installed, and my pics are uploaded. I have been struggling with this for 8 days!! I am technically challenged,so all I want to do is set my gallery page that has my artwork on it, as the page you see when you come to my site. I do have a mysql, php, already installed. By the way I have gallery 1.5.7, I have read the install instructions over and over, and I just can't get it! Can you help? Thanks in advance for taking your time!

Hello runta,

i am not sure if i understand you correct.
Let me tell what i think i understood.

You have a website
Its running fine
URL is www.yoursite.com
You have a gallery
Its also running fine
URL is www.yoursite.com/gallery
But you want that Gallery appears at www.yoursite.com

Is that correct?

Hello Jens! Thanks for replying so quick, you took me off guard! My web host is start logic, they have a package, I guess you would call it, to download and install Gallery, I have 1.5.7, I also downloaded Imagemagic, I can upload my pics to the album, but how do I make that the home page people would view when they visit my site? Like I said, I am very slow at trying to comprehend computer language! I hope this is a little more insight into my question. Basically what I want, is the ability to thumbnails of my art, with the option to click on to enlarge, then have the title, size and price for my artwork, then to further complicate problems, I want the menu box ,ie.,home,contact,etc. THEN I want to play music while looking at photos! Whew! Any assistance you could offer is greatly appreciated! I have Filezilla, I have uploaded Gallery 1.5.7, and Imagemagic, to the server in the ftp.public file. Is that correct? I have searched Start logics website, and it really isn't much help, nor is the support, I had to wait three days to get anything from them. This has now become an all consuming life mission to complete this! Thanks!

You are just starting from scratch. Is that correct?

Jens

P.S.: Using the 'enter' key sometimes makes reading a post a lot easier ;-)

Hi Jens! OOooh! Now that's a horse of a different color isn't it? You got it, REALLY starting from scratch. I know I'm in way over my head, and getting very frustrated! Do these files go into public_ftp., or public_html? Sorry I don't understand what you mean by using the enter key, pathetic isn't it?

Hello,

the files must be in the public_html folder.
You can't use the ImageMagick because the chance that it does not fit is ~99% ;-)
Hopefully your hoster has it already installed, so gallery will detect it automatically.

Please read the documentation at: http://codex.gallery2.org/Main_Page

If you don't understand things there, let me know, we'll figure it out.
If you are superfrustrated, don't want to know exactly how the heck this Gallery (/%/&$%(&%§&% is installed and just want it working, let me also know.
We'll find a way ;-)

"enter" key on your keyboard, is the key for a new line, in germany (were i am from) we also say "return" key.
:-)

(10x enter) ;-)

I've got the same problem. When you type in my site: http://fotosbyerika.com, you end up with a blank site. There is nothing there. How do I create a main page - an introductory page?

Same question from me. Gallery2 was installed in www.mysite.com/XYZ. If I use that complete URL everything is fine, but I want visitors to type only www.mysite.com (without the /XYZ). I suspect this is simple, but this is not my area of expertise. Any help would be appreciated!

Slightly different question. I've answered erika_conn's question in a different thread.

RonOnThePond, here is the answer you your question (if you're using G2):
FAQ: How can I move my gallery installation from one folder to another?

For G1, I don't remember for sure, but move everything under www.example.com/XYZ to www.example.com (use example.com for dummy domains, mysite.com is a valid domain and it's not yours)

Then edit config.php (or configure.php, I can't recall the file name) and change the path in several places.
