How many albums can GR handle?

I have a Gallery 2 website with several albums, until yesterday I could connect with GR 1.5 and upload images etc...
I've just created a lot more empty albums (they're about 1100 now) but apparently GR can't fetch them. Everything looks fine, it says "Fetching albums" but nothing happens. Can't it handle so many albums?
