Gallery1 import - are we using symlinks or what?

My server claims that my gallery2 albums folder is 2.2 gigs and my (now defunct) gallery1 albums folder is 1.5 gigs. Furthermore my overall disk usage is 2.3 gigs. I'm unable to tell via my FTP client and I don't believe I have shell access, so I'll just ask here.

Are the 1.5 gigs of files I "migrated" from g1 to g2 actually duplicated or do I just have a host of symlinks? I wouldn't think mod-rewrite would affect my FTP directory listings, would it?

The reason I ask is that I'm trying to free up some space and I'd be happy to delete my g1 albums folder if I thought it wouldn't break g2. I also don't seem to be the owner of the g1 folder anymore and I'm unable to reset its permissions.
Is this normal?

You should be able to delete the G1 items. That is if you migrated using the migrate modle and not the add form local server method.
Just delete one and see if it works. If it does then you are OK of not then post back.

That's the thing, I wasn't able to delete because my account is apparently unable to write to these files. Did the webserver account keep ownership to itself? I am using a virtual host at toplclasshost.com so I'm not root or anything.

The files are now owned by the webserver user. If you have a control panel file manager for your host you should be able to change permissions to 777 or delete/rename them with the control panel,
or
FAQ: I need to remove my albums directory, but I can't since the webserver user owns the files. What can I do?
