g2image integration with fireboard no-WYSIWYG editor?

There's a new kid on the block. And its looking promising to the joomla! community. Fireboard is the way many go if it comes to forums in joomla.

But - and there always seems a but - fireboard uses its own non-WYSIWYG editor, for security reasons. By now, they do not have pluggable editors. That means: No g2image integration in fireboard.

Now my question is: Is there anything planned or maybe even out by now to integrate the very good g2image chooser into fireboard? I'd definitely donate if this would happen any time soon!

I do not know how much efforts this would take, if starting with the codebase for g2image. But I sure would welcome any comment to my request here!

TIA, birdie60

Can you use mosImage with Fireboard?

I've been thinking about making a button that was independent of the editor button array, like mosImage and mosPageBreak are now, at the bottom of the editor window. It would open G2Image and pop up the window, inserting the G2Image HTML in the editor window, regardless of the editor. But that wouldn't work if Fireboard completely hijacks the editor window to the point that mosImage can't even get to it.

Thanks for the quick reply, capt_kirk!

Well, sorry to say that, but to my knowledge fireboard editor comes without mosImage support out of the box. I read somewhere that there is a hack or extension to enable some mos features, like e.g. wikis or dictionaries. Their standards use a bbc [img] tag, and within the editor you can select pics on your local drive and upload them with the message. By now, there is a restriction to at least one picture per message.

More details and a thriving forum can be found on the fireboard homepage, see
http://www.bestofjoomla.com/

And there is a image handling wishlist thread already, where I'm asking for g2 image support:

With all your knowledge 'bout g2 integration, the fireboard community would love to see you integrating g2image into their board, I'm sure!

So, at first quick look, there are two issues. 1) Getting bbcode output, 2) Getting a button that will open G2Image.

I'm already planning bbcode output for 3.1. It will be easy to implement, I just didn't want to do too many things at once in 2.2 or 3.0. Makes for more straight troubleshooting.

I'll look at fireboard's plugin infrastructure. It should be fairly easy, but it depends on if they've put hooks in to add other editing buttons. The WordPress guys have the same issue in their "code view" mode, and they have good hooks for adding buttons. So, I'm hopeful that Fireboard will have a similar design.

This all sounds very promising, capt'n! Let's hope, there are no Borgs or Klingons out there to fight a wonderful project! :-)

I have subscribed to this tread and would love to hear some proceedings sometimes!

The bestofjoomla site has discussed many of the things you are looking for; try a search in their forum!

Good luck,

Well, a little deeper second look doesn't look so promising. There doesn't seem to be any kind of plugin infrastructure for adding buttons to the editor window. That doesn't mean it can't be hacked, or that they couldn't add an infrastructure; it just means that it's not a one-hour project.

I'll keep looking, in case I missed the hooks I'm looking for.

Well, let's face it. Fireboard is in its first stable release v1.0.3. While the outlook is promising, I do not think it is a very ripe project in respect of plugins and hooks. But I'm no programmer and did not look into their code very much!

You will see much more than me. I just heard from my users, that they would love g2image as part of fireboard editor...
