Can you see my gallery? I want to know if I have port forwarding working properly through my FREESCO 0.3.1 box. On the advice of somebody on these forums, I have added the following line to my c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS file: because my freesco box won't let me use the external address to browse the gallery, so this way I can browse and admin locally. Of course everything works fine if I set the URL to 127.0.0.1 ----

You almost have it....I think you need to double check your url paths in the config.php file to make sure there right

I edited my first post to attach phpinfo().htm and config.php
I think the URL paths are correct... could you tell me what you can see? (If anything)
Thanks in advance.

There's nothing wrong with your config.php, but your webserver is distinctly dodgy. I can't get a whole album page to download, and everytime I refresh, I get a different portion of it.

first post updated with httpd.conf and php.ini files attached.
Big thanks to anybody that at least tries to help!
I still can't figure out what's wrong with my configuration?

I tried just now and got a "403 Forbidden" error for every page of your website, including http://briansuomela.myphotos.cc/. Looks like things got worse :-/

hehe.. true.
I gave up trying to get it working with port forwarding to a winxp box behind my router box.
Now I'm trying to host it directly on the router box (freesco 0.3.1).

Okay now I have it setup on a linux box (which is my FREESCO 0.3.1 router) with no port forwarding or anything weird like that.
My friends tell me the gallery works okay, except the slideshow is broken, saying there are no pictures to be viewed.

Looks ok now - and slideshow works fine.
But wasn't it Hong Kong that was going to "take your breath away"?

browsing was working ok on the linux box (php 4.3.1 and apache 1.3.27), but I couldn't login (locally or remotely). When I enter admin and password, the box goes away, reloads the gallery but it still says "login" at the top right. Sessions seem to be working fine.
After hours of reading the forums and trying everything I could find, I went back to the winxp box (php 4.3.2RC3 and apache 2.045) and now browsing and login work fine on the server machine, but for some reason from other machines (on the LAN or from internet) causes 404's at random. If you just try reloading a few times then the pages always load eventually, but rarely on the first try. Annoying. it's a K6-2 cpu, 400Mhz box with 192MB ram.
Update: Installed v.1.3.4-final-cvs-b1 patch, broken albums fixed!
(THANK YOU BHARAT!!!)
IF you don't know what I'm talking about, goto http://gallery.menalto.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=6483
Please tell me if my gallery is or isn't working at http://briansuomela/myphotos.cc
TIA

Looks like it's working now. Glad to see you got it fixed!

Thanks for your support bharat, you da man!
I noticed PHP 4.3.3 is out, but I have learned from past experience to wait a week or so before I go trying to break my working config, so that way I'm not alone.

space monkey,
I have tried your router/firewall situation before too. It's crazy!
What I did that solved all my problems with hosting web sites and Gallery on my local network at home was switch to SME. It works great as a router, firewall, portforwarding, web server, email server, print server, the works.
I have 3 Gallery sites hosted on my SME box. SME runs on the Red Hat 7.3 kernal and is free. Did I say free?
The only problem that I have had is the watermarking. It seems that the version of PHP on the SME won't work with it.
You can learn more about SME at http://www.e-smith.org

Hey, just some advice from fellow hoster. If you want to be able to test your server from outside, try using a proxy! It works great, even if it has Bess or whatever because there is no way you could be in their database anyways (or why... ). Try I think it is http://www.rrdb.org for a list of thousands of working proxies that are tested, probably one near you![/url]
