WPG2 gallery tree widget -- photo insert issues

Hi,

First - I think this integration is going to be great when it's working :-)

I have several issues with the gallery photo insert widget:
a) firefox 2.0.0.8: the WPG2 icon shows only on the "code" editor and not on the "visual" editor (it shows in both toolbars in IE 7)
b) As mentioned in another post the photos within the albums are not sorted. They seem to be shown in order they were uploaded and the later reordering process is somehow ignored
c) when I select a photo (checkmark) it and "insert" it into the blog, the photo shown in the blog is actually a different photo. This could be related to the issue b) -- if the WPG2 widget presents the photos in the order loaded but inserts thinks they were presented in the order as they were reordered ... Not sure but it's a mess.
d) Once the photos is inserted I can never predict how it is going to behave. Sometimes it opens full size in lightbox, sometimes it just sends the reader to the gallery page or it opens the gallery page within the blog. Totally unpredictable.

I have a feeling that there are a couple of bugs to be worked on... but if anybody has ideas if I'm doing something wrong, feel free to send me in the right direction...

Best,
Klaus

Hiya Klausk,

A) This behaviour is generally caused by another Wordpress plugin preventing the insertion of the WPG2 G2 Image Button, please look at your list of Wordpress Plugins and disable any plugin that "adds" buttons to the TinyMCE Editor.
B) Please see the other thread regarding this.
C) I cannot reproduce this behaviour, the image selected is always being inserted, your issue sounds more like a cache issue, not a WPG2 issue.
D) as the Lightbox scipt only display images, any Albums, or non image types will be displayed directly in the WPG2 Output Page

Hope this Helps

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response:

a) OK, not a big issue, I'll live with it ;-)
b) nothing useful there ... http://gallery.menalto.com/node/70283 Am I missing something?
c) this is one big issue. I don't have any cache plugins on the blog and I flushed it on the laptop... ? Not being able to select and insert the same photo is pretty much a show stopper... I just hope it's not another compatibility issue.
d) I'm inserting stricktly photos, not albums or any other items...

I just inserted a few photos on my blog from my Cook Island's album and they all correctly inserted, as a suggestion try turning off all your other Wordpress Plugin's and see if you get the same issue.. It really does sound like a cache issue of some kind.

Also as a suggestion look at the WPG2ID number being inserted and see if the ID's link up with Gallery2. You might have a slight corruption issue with Gallery2 which is causing the mix up although I doubt this..

Hi,

c) I tried to insert one photo id = 12370. The widget inserted the id of the album 12221... and that would of course would cause the issue d) as you suggested.

Now the question is why it doesn't take the id of the photo when inserting. Any clues?

Thanks,
Klaus

More testing: it inserts the id of the photo IF the photo is on the first page of the album. However, I have a lot of photos in the same album and the widget presents them on several pages (they are on the same page in the gallery itself). All photos that are NOT on the first page are inserted as albums, not photos...

Just a few things the images being displayed in the G2image selector may not be in the same order. Again check the code being inserted, I tried to insert a photo from page 6 of one of my albums and the image being returned is the same one as I selected so I know the code works..

Check your wpg2id tags (<wpg2>14188</wpg2>) the id is the same as a internal Gallery2 ID, in all cases Gallery2 is supplying these ID's thus if the ID is wrong then something is not right within your Gallery2 installation..

The other trick, is change the number of thumbnails being returned to all and see if the insertion works then, you could be also getting a php session corruption, we have seen issues with this before..

Hi,

I narrowed it down to another plugin, the inline-ajax-page http://anthologyoi.com/inap/ ... as soon as I disabled this one, the photos started to show up as selected...

Saying that -- both plugins, the inline-ajax-page and the WPG2, are very nice and want to use them... So, what should I do? :-(

I opened up a bug track ticket for you, which will put this issue on our radar. I suspect the javascripts are clashing with each other which is causing the issue.. You might also want to contact the author of inline ajax page as well to see if they can also track down where the scripts are clashing..

Thanks. I will contact the other guy as well.

Another issue I just noticed: I'm using text formatting tags within the title of the photo in the gallery, such as: Kukljica \[i\]\[=#FFFFFF\]Kukljica\[/i\] (backslashes are here just to present the whole formatting -- otherwise the italic tags get eliminated). This messes up the java script as well. It looks like a piece of the photo title ends up in the link before the photo, specifically in case the following text shows up on the web page: Kukljica” rel=”lightbox[45]”>{PHOTO COMES HERE}

Thanks for that, most likely we be only able to correct this in WPG2 3.1 when we move away from the imageblock module and instead directly insert images from Gallery2 (with the correct REL Tags etc)

I have opened a bugticket for this item as well..

Klaus, we were just trying to explain what's going on. It's not a bug in the sense that there is an error in the code. It's just the way G2's fetchalbumtree function works. As Ozgreg and I said in the other thread, we'll try to add some WPG2-side sorting in the next version.

I did a quick test with the inline ajax plugin, and couldn't recreate the issue. I was using the default settings, so I probably didn't trigger whatever is causing it. Could you post your settings for the ajax plugin so that I can try to replicate the error and figure out the cause.

Thanks,
Kirk

Another note: my gallery and blog are on different domains - not sure if this affects, probably not, but I'm just mentioning so are aware of it.

Klaus, Thanks.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to test more until Sunday or Monday due to our family schedule this weekend. If I don't post something back to this thread by Tuesday, ping me.

Thanks, Kirk, no worries - I'm not in a rush. I'll have a lot of work to move my photos from flikr later anyway :-)

Have a nice weekend,
