3 sites using 1 install of gallery. Possible?

I currently have 3 websites that are hosted on 3 different shared servers. I would like to be able to share albums among the 3 sites. So i guess i want all 3 of them to access the same db. From what i gather reading through old posts, is that this is not possible. But what if i purchase a virtual private server and move all 3 sites to it. Could I then have all 3 sites access the same db to share albums and images.
