Debaser Theme

Im just needing a bit of a kick start trying to modify my first theme.

I want to add three scripts/features;

• one that, on a mouse-over of an image, will enlarge the thumbnail of the album
• add an extra table into the photo page like on the PGtheme, and all the images in this table will be preloaded
• modify the sidebar so it is always shown, with an option to hide, rather than always hidden with an option to show.

For the first one i know the script i need, i just dont know where to place it. The second i have no idea how to do, need quite a bit of help on that and the sidebar im guessing theres just a line of code somewhere that i need to swap the values around?
