Sorry, I am very new to all this, and wasn't even sure how to search for what I want to know...

Can I just download gallery, construct my webpage on it just on my computer, and THEN grab a domain name and host for it?

thanks to anyone willing to help me out!

LOM

There are some servers you can set up on your local machine like xampp (just google it)
But you are better off getting your space first, beacuse you will always run into trouble as a novice user.
The setup on local machine sometimes creates problems as well from my experience and not everything works for me as supposed. Moreover you will have new pproblemms maybe after putting the site on the web.
It is simply double work...
Get your space and make your gallery there right away. what can you loose? getting a hosting account is a done within minutes!
Good luck

To run gallery on your local PC, you need to install a web server, database server and need PHP interpreter. As mentioned above, you can get all these in a bundle and install easily with xampp or something similar. but to get everything done and later FTP the files and setup the database on server, you may need some technical skills.

If you are a complete newbie, you may have troubles. On the other hand, if you plan to do some custom work or major edits on skins, you may better off doing it locally, first.

Thanks, I am a complete newbie. My Love could probably help me with it.... but why would I want that? I may as well suck it up and pay the very small hosting fee and get it online right away!

Thanks so much for your comment.
