I run a family blog using Wordpress 2.3.1 and Gallery 2.2.3. I have used WPG2 for a long time, recently upgraded to WPG2 v3. When I click the tab, to validate the install, I get a 404 error.
The site is hosted using PHP 5.2.2 and MySQL 5.0.16
If it helps, the site is turse.org.
I have tried changing the theme, to the default WP theme in case this was an issue - same result. I have also deactivated every plugin except WPG2, same result.
Thanks,
Josh

Josh,
Navigate to the WPG2 Options -> Gallery2 Rewrite tab and turn off rewrites and see if you are getting the 404 errors still.

Is there a way to do this 'manually' - it's clicking the WPG2 Options tab that sends me to 404. This is why I can't validate.

It sounds like a file etc is missing from the WPG2 plugin. What URL is the WPG2 options tab sending you to? It should be something like http://www.site.com/wordpress/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpg2_pathadmin

I was hopeful - so re-uploaded the plugin, no joy.
It redirects to http://turse.org/wp-admin/install/ , though I see the link should go to: http://turse.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpg2/wpg2functions.inc, and yes, wpg2/wp2functions.inc exists. Typing in the path you suggested works (http://turse.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpg2_pathadmin).

Kirk,
Any ideas, I not seen this before.. It almost looks like A) File Permission issues or B) Some kind of protection preventing access to the includes..

Josh,
I've never seen this either, but I agree with Ozgreg about the types of things to check. But if manually entering the URL works, then I don't think it's a permission issue.
Also, what other plugins are you running?
Finally, could you install the Internal Rewrite Viewer Plugin so that we can see if there are any screwy rewrites going on internally?
Kirk

Maybe I should qualify 'manually entering the URL works'. It takes me to the http://turse.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpg2_pathadmin page, the paths look correct. If I click 'Update Options', I get the redirect to the 404.
I had tried turning off all plugins and doing just the WPG2 extension alone, but, I am running:

WPG2 (of course)
and just for giggles, here's the list from the wpg2 directory, showing permissions:

Bummer. Everything looks right. I hate this kind of bug...
All of your other plugin admin tabs work correctly, right?
Have you tried this from another computer to rule out that it's an issue with that one browser/computer?
Could you try installing the Firefox plugin called "HTTP Live Headers" to see what exactly is being called when you go to the WPG2 tab and when you hit the "Update Options" button after manually going to the paths tab. Once you've installed the plugin, you can see the HTTP GETs by activating it on Firefox's Tools menu and then going to the page. This will verify that it's calling the correct page in the first place.

Done - I had no luck with the Internal Rewrite Viewer Plugin - that too redirects to a 404 page (turse.org/rewrite or turse.org/index.php/rewrite).
Changing browsers and machines had no effect.
Here's the output from the HTTP Live Headers:
http://turse.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpg2/wpg2functions.inc

Hmm. Well, it is calling the right page first, but then it's calling http://turse.org/wp-admin/install/ for some reason. Nothing in the WPG2 code calls that page. Very strange...
I know this is a pain, but could you try a fresh install of WP in a different directory, like /test/ or something. See if a fresh install of WP with WPG2 gives you the same behavior. That will tell us if it's something in your particular WP setup, or if it's something in your server setup.

I knew I should have done the stupid check first. The bone-stock install works - it did require a new database, just installing a new Wordpress site with the existing database did not. Looks like you guys are off the hook since it's particular (or peculiar) to my setup. Thank you for your help and the excellent plugin!.
