*.sized.jpg and mod_rewrite

In my Apache logs I'm seeing 404 errors when people link to images in my Gallery using the xxxx.sized.jpg filename format. For example, someone is linking to www.mysite.com/funny/pic22961.sized.jpg when they should really be linking to just www.mysite.com/funny/pic22961.jpg.

I know in previous versions of Gallery this worked fine, but there must have been some changes with how mod_rewrite is used because it no longer works. I double-checked on the filesystem and ../my/path/albums/funny/pic22961.sized.jpg exists but cannot be viewed through the web server. Is there any easy way to revert back to previous mod_rewrite functionality and make these files available? The only reason I ask is I have many people linking to my website, which improves my Google PageRank except when it gives 404 errors. I'm running Gallery 1.5.7.

BTW, I have tried Gallery 1.6 alpha on a different server and I like it! I hope that it eventually goes to beta and then a final release version. I think the only reason more people haven't tried 1.6 yet is due to all the CSS changes... personally I customized all my CSS, and it would be a lot of work to redo it all just to move to 1.6.
