Using username and passwords from gallery on other parts of my web site?

I would like to use the usernames and passwords from gallery2 DB on other parts of my web site. What would be the best way to go about doing this?

Here is something but I am not sure it will be enough (and you can have some cookie troubles with URL) but maybe it can give a little start...
