Is it technically even possible to have one form search through both WordPress entries and Gallery2 captions and descriptions at the same time?
A lot of what I'm planning to put in Gallery2 isn't just photos, it's maps and other reference type material, so I don't want to force visitors to have to make two searches. They won't bother.
I had a good look through previous posts but so far I can only figure out how to search either WordPress or Gallery2, but not both.
Assuming it isn't possible, how have other Gallery2 users dealt with this?

Hiya Robert,
Yes this is possible although we do not have a piece of functionality in WPG2 3.0x to handle this. We plan to release a widget in the next version that will allow searching from both WP and G2..

Ok, good to hear. Thanks. I guess I've disabled a fair amount of Gallery2 stuff, but my design goal is to make WordPress pages and Gallery2 Albums absolutely identical, meaning visitors don't notice there's three separate programs scotch taped together. So as a suggestion, it'd be nice if an integrated search could be accessed via an HTML form within WordPress and if the search results could be similar (ie. thumbnails not mandatory).
In the meantime I'll have another look at the Google search API.

Came across this thread as I am also interested in having a single search for my WP/G2 site. Google Search seems like it would be suitable for this. There is a Google Search plug-in for WP, but I have not been able to find anything for G2.
Were you guys able to make any headway on this?

Hiya Rogermh,
On the Roadmap for WPG2 3.1.. We have had to push out this release due to the impact of the changes in Wordpress 2.5

Yep the Milestone progress is tracked in Mantis I just rearranged the Milestones last weekend thanks to Wordpress 2.5 breaking several aspects of WPG2.. No dates yet, but I am going to be putting in some more hours over Easter so with luck I will know how close I can get to a WPG2 3.05 release. Most likely the changes in Wordpress 2.5 will kill any backwards compatibility with older versions so I suspect I will need to bump the min level to Wordpress 2.5..
Once I get WP 2.5 (And G2.3) fixes out the door I can resume WPG2 3.1 development..
