The following information is required to get an answer:
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).
Gallery URL (optional but very useful): http://solomonpics.boldygoingnowhere.org
Gallery version: 1.5.5
Apache version: 2.2.3
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please): PHP v5.2.0
Graphics Toolkit: ImageMagick
Operating system: openSUSE 10.2
Web browser/version (if applicable):

I an getting the ablove error in the final step of the config, but have confirmed that the albums directory does exist at the specified path. In fact, it was binary transferred from my old server (yes I did chmod -R 0777 albums), and I have restarted Apache (the entire server, actually) since the folder was put there.

Hopefully someone can give me a hint here.

what is the path specified for the DocumentRoot directive of the <VirtualHost> container (or global) where /gallery/ is located?
this path is almost, always the same one you use to specify for the albums directory.

what are the permissions set for this directory and what about the ownership?

shouldn't the path be using / instead of \ ?
