Page not found and .html added to files

Every file I try to upload gets an .html added to it (ie, image.jpg becomes image.jpg.html). So when I click on the link or thumbnail, I get a "page not found".

I'm running Drupal 5.7, with gallery module version 5.x-2.0. I've enabled clean urls, and activated the rewrite module in Gallery2. But I did notice that in the URL Rewrite Administration page, I'm getting the following error: "An error occured while trying to save your settings. Cannot write to the .htaccess file". I'm not experienced in these matters, but I tried changing permissions on the file, and that didn't help.

Thanks

I finally fixed the .htaccess issue. I had the wrong url written. But which file is it supposed to link to, the main gallery folder, or in the g2data folder?

But that didn't fix the problem. So I also finally figured out how to change the "show item" rule to included "gallery". But now I don't have any thumbnails, and the links don't go anywhere.

Thanks again

Never mind, I've figured it out. I finally found an online tutorial that explained what directory to point to for rewriting the .htaccess file. That's what the problem was. The explanatory text asks for the "embedded" file, but it should be pointed to the root directory of the Drupal installation. Thanks.
