I've set up Gallery 1.3.1 for a client. He uploaded a hughe amount of images and put them in several albums with captions and all...
Now we find that the pictures he uploaded are way to large (in KB) but are fine in pixel dimensions.
So I downloaded all the albums and rushed them through Ulead Smart Saver to reduce their size in KB (pixel dimensions are unaltered)
When I try to upload the new pictures with their original names by FTP I get error messages as the pictures seem write protected. Changing their properties by CHMOD doesn't work. Changing the CHMOD value of the directories doesn't work either.
Uploading the new calculated (old) pictures with Gallery Remote works fine - but it renames the pictures by adding -001, -002 etc.
How can I upload/overwrite the pictures with their original name, original size (only with better compression) preferably with FTP as I don't have telnet access?
Thank you
Albert

Use the "cleanup script" from the User Guide to change the permissions on the files, then you can overwrite them.

A word of warning, though: You're doing this behind Gallery's back, so if you upload images of different dimensions, Gallery will still treat them as if they were the original size. No way around that except to write some code.

Thank you for pointing me to this script.
Since I wanted to change only the "weight" of the images but not their size the script does exactly the job I needed...
