Handling mkv / Matroska file

Hi

I am in the process of encoding some video's and I was looking at using the mkv/matroska container, but I noted that gallery2 doesn't handles these as native video's

ffmpeg handles these files, I was wondering why (of if there is an eta) gallery2 doesn't handle them currently.
