Security and being n00b

Hello!

Quite some time ago I downloaded and started using the Gallery Appliance, but I'm starting to get worried about my security since I'm no Linux expert. I run svn update to update Gallery2, but Apache, mysql and such remain the same old version since I'm not sure how to update them.

Could someone be so kind to give me some pointers how to update/secure the rest of my system? :)

Gallery version = 2.3-svn core 1.2.31
API = Core 7.51, Module 3.9, Theme 2.6, Embed 1.4
PHP version = 4.3.11 apache2handler
Webserver = Apache/2.0.59 (rPath)
Database = mysqlt 5.0.24, lock.system=flock
Toolkits = Exif, Getid3, LinkItemToolkit, Thumbnail, ArchiveUpload, Dcraw, Ffmpeg, NetPBM, Gd
Acceleration = none, none

That depends on what distribution you are running. Take a look at your distributions home page or do a google search for your distributions name and "how to update"
