Missing empty directories

Win32/Apache/Php5 system

I recently had a physical hard drive failure on my gallery2 drive and I'm using a recovery program to get as much of the data back as possible. Unfortunately, the program does not copy empty folders over and my gallery has a lot of linked items creating thousands of empty directories.

My question is, how important are these directories? Will gallery see that they are missing and recreate them itself or do I need to recreate each one myself?
