Hello,
I have a test install of WP 2.5 with G2 integrated. I inserted fullsize images in the posts with links to the gallery picture. I turned off rewrites because that did not seem to work, so I get pretty ugly and long links. What happens is this: in a fairy tale like fashion, when I insert an image, it does appear in the post. However, a few hours later from another machine I only see a text link to the image. If I copy the image link to a browser, I get a security violation page.
Then I re-inserted the images, and they seemed to work fine. Lean back, sigh. Again, few hours later, from another machine, no images, only text link. This happened twice. Logging in of users seems to work OK all the time, and if I click the text link I can see the album as well, regardless of whether the inserted picture is shown or not.
The issue may be something to do with caches or expiration of something (cookies maybe?), judging from the time element -- but otherwise I have no clue.
Also, how can I check the exact version of my WPG2 and Gallery2? I am not sure what I had installed (this weekend, though, and I think it should be the newest version.)
Thanks,
tc.

In your Gallery2 Site Panel, what is the values for your Session Settings?

It's three weeks for the duration of the session, and one week for inactivity timeout. (I have the Hungarian version, so I do not know what the original English terms were, but I guess that is it.)

Hmmm... I get "Access denied" too. And I'm a moderator...

OK, read it, tested it, but the symptoms seem to be the same, immediately after the change. (Logged out, deleted cache, logged in again, no pictures shown, and the image's link is still a sec. violation.)
This is what the link to the image looks like (without the domain): /gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=391&g2_GALLERYSID=c8df5760ef52933af39f5d7aa1f18ac5
Shouldn't the mystic number from the end of the link have disappeared after the change was applied? (I'm only guessing.)
I'm eager to do further testing if you have suggestions -- and I also need to tell you that I really appreciate the help and all that enermous work you had put into this project!
Thanks
tc.

A further observation: on the machine where I inserted the pictures I still can see them in the post. It seems that a session ID is stored in the link, but that session ID is probably only valid for the session where I inserted the pictures, therefore it won't work when I am viewing it from any other session. This is just my thought, I'm not sure about how this actually works.

I am a little unclear about the role of Gallery2 sessions myself.. Just reading up on them so I can understand how to better integrate them. Unfortunately WP does not really have session handling which makes it a little difficult..

A small update: what happened is that even on the machine from where I could see the inserted pictures they disappeared, and only text links are left. Something somewhere expired again... What I'll probably do as a workaround is that I upload those pictures that I would like to show in posts, and replace the gallery2 image links with those. Not very nice, but should at least show the pictures until this is worked out.

Hiya Towncat,
unfortunately not only can I not produce this issue but the session handling in WPG2 3.05+ is 100%. I am starting to wonder if it is some weird hosting environment issue..
If you want, can you please PM me an Wordpress Admin account so I can have a look at your site and settings, also can you please have the BTEV plugin as well so I can see the debug log..
Thanks

Hi Ozgreg,
Thanks, I'll try this. Sorry, I was not about lately. I'll test this one and if it does not help I'll get you a login so that you could see it for yourself.
I'll get back when I know more.

...eer, I get this: "WPG2 Plugin Not Validated", for example in the sidebar block (after installing 3.07), and this "Sorry.. WPG2 Page can not be displayed until WPG2 Plugin has been Validated." at the gallery page. What did I get wrong?

OK, I checked and saved the wpg2 paths in the wpg2 admin menu, it seems to have returned. Still no G2images though.

Towncat,
FYI After installing any new WPG2 version you will need to revalidate.. I am very confident that the G2 session handling is now working, in the testing I have performed G2 has correctly found my previously logged in session..
I suspect your issue is a pure G2image issue.. Want to start a new thread in G2image forum or want this thread moved?

Can you please take a look at it before we move on?
I sent PM.
Also, I'm not sure about your previous suggestion for modification, as it is no longer online -- was it done in the WPG2 tree or in the Gallery tree? I might need to undo it.
Thanks

It is in the 3.07 tree so it should be live. Thanks for the login details, I will look @ your G2 install sometime in the next 24 hours..

Towncat,
I have looked at your site and found the following.
A) WPG2 Tags work fine and display fine on your blog and so do sidebars..
B) Your broken images are HTML Link, When I follow the HTML Link, Gallery2 returns a Security Violation thus why no images have been displaying.. I am not 100% why G2 is returning a security violation, I suspect it may have something to do with a setting in G2 or some kind of web server security you may have configured..

Ozgreg,
Thank you for looking at the site. I saw the Security Violation in the beginning, but I still have no idea what the reason is. But you gave me a hint, I think I'll just use this as a workaround. I'll use the wpg2 tags to include images in the posts, as this really does seem to work.
Thanks for your help.
If you think this belongs to some other forum (like Gallery2 or G2Image), you could now move it there, so that maybe we can find a solution to the Sec.Violation issue.
Thanks,
tc.

Sorry, deleted this, it's irrelevant now.

Now things look like this: when I login, I see no pictures created with wpg2 tags. I click albums, then back, and the pictures appear. It seem like gallery2 login is not done until I go into the gallery2 part, and without that pictures are not available. This is much better than it was, but still a little inconvenient. Any hints?
Thanks,
tc.

Unfortunately no, I am pretty sure your issues are all due to your hosting server configuration, which is is pretty exotic, I am not sure why your hosting firm insists on having you use https with additional security beyond that, it is pretty much overkill.

I moved the site to another server (not because of this though), and I do not have https access now. I hoped the problem would go with the server change, but unfortunately it persists. Which direction should I try to start to track the error? I don't really have an idea where to now...
thanks,
tc
