'#' character breaks links

Any image with a '#' in the filename makes Gallery2 very unhappy. Is there something I can do besides deleting the album and re-uploading? I can't get to the item page to rename it, and renaming the file itself through the command line doesn't make a difference. Example Item: Example Gallery: Any help muchly appreciated.
